Hi Gang! Are any of you on Elance and, if so, how do you like it? _________________ Dave DeAndrea

I looked at it once and all the jobs were like, "50,000 word e-learning project. Pay: $75. Need completed files by tomorrow night."
Umm, no. _________________ Bob Ransom

IMO, you will not be all that happy with elance. I've booked about $800 in work there this year, but that is from 7 different jobs. I've declined a number of jobs too, where the voice seeker has come back and said "wow, we really like your voice, can you do it for $30?"
These sites were okay when I was just starting out, but for the level that you are at now it's kind of meh...
BTW, only one of the clients from my 7 jobs is a repeat client. The rest were one-off jobs (voicemail and stuff). |

You have to do some serious panning to find gold there. _________________ Tom Dheere - The "H" is Silent, but I'm Not!

You know, after checking the 'voiceover' list on Elance daily for a couple of weeks, I was just about ready to throw my hands up in the air and cast the website into the Freelancer, oDesk and Fiverr pile. There were so many lowballing clients and talent.
Then I had a lead pop up in my Google Alerts and I followed it through on Elance. Turned out to be a wonderful, ongoing client who paid good rates and is a tremendous amount of fun. Today I'm working for my second client found on there and they are a leading Aussie company and again, pay a good rate.
So my thought is that though I don't spend time on the website and I'll usually leave it to Google to find me the decent jobs, I'm certainly open to doing business there.
If you see something that is really up your alley but it already has a bunch of bids and the average quote from VO talent is $23.78 or a bag of ramen noodles, I'd still give it a go. Treat it in the same sort of way you treat the other casting websites. _________________ www.mattcowlrick.com |
