You know what, Donovan? It does motivate me, so thanks. I'm probably about where you were those 6 years ago, except I don't have a horrible demo. Trying to avoid that step. hehe.
So even though I don't know you yet, I'm very glad to read your excellent news which is no doubt the result of lots of hard but rewarding work. May many more successes come your way!

Congrats! And I'm glad you posted the length of your journey so far. Six years is not a lot of time, relatively speaking. Sadly, most people pursuing the arts want immediate gratification. And they usually have no idea what gratification really is.
The getting of the agent is probably the hardest part of the journey. Getting work is often easier than getting a good agent. Now comes the hard part. Have fun, and take nothing for granted. Your agent gets 10%, you need to do 90%! You happen to have a great team working for you. I love the guys at VOX. Never feel like you've "made it." Once an actor gets complacent or feels they've made it big it's downhill from there. Throughout the day, ask yourself, "What else can I do for me career?" Trust me, if there's another hour in the day there's an hour or more to do. Be very specific with what you want out of your career. Agents are not mind readers. They need to know who, what, and where to sell you. You need to provide that info.
Again, congrats!!!!! B |

Thank you, Melissa and Peter!
Bob,
What a wonderful set of tips/advice. I firmly believe in that already. When I first met with the folks at Flatirons Management in NYC, one the main reasons they wanted to work with me, was because I was getting promo work on my own. They knew I wasn't going to be a "project" and that I was going to do whatever I could to get work on my own.
My (and a few folks on VO-B very good friend, and amazing VO, Anthony Mendez, said that one of the best tips he could give somebody about finding an agent... was to not need one. That has been a very accurate statement. Especially since I didn't ask VOX for representation - they asked me.
Again, Bob, thank you. It is very encouraging to hear such great advice from someone already among this industry's elite, like yourself. We've all got to get out there and do the work... your dreams aren't going to fulfill themselves! _________________ Donovan

Donovan-
One of the highlights of Voice in Vegas was getting a chance to meet you- and it's been so exciting to see how you have been working hard, and smart- and are kicking arse and taking names! Congratulations!!! Blow that horn some more- you've earned it, and I know you will CONTINUE to earn it. _________________ Moe Egan

Wow, Moe, that is very kind of you to say. Thank you. Hard to believe that VOICE was 4 years ago! Time sure does fly...
Anyway, thank you so much for your encouragement! _________________ Donovan

Back on topic, fantastic tips from Bob and you Donovan about not needing an agent and having the business rolling in without them. And you totally buried the lead, they sought you out, not the other way around. That is the best way to go! WOOHOO! _________________ Pam Tierney
