Try replacing USB cables and try another USB port on the computer.

yeah, i've done that. ........ but the mic port pro-specific cable is not easily replaced to where the device works with another, similar cable ...

Diane: So you say it doesn't matter whether you use the MicPort Pro or another audio interface, you get the same glitching at random?
This isn't cell phone interference, it's a sound driver/clock/OS problem.
I would try increasing buffer size first, since that should be easy.

If that doesn't work, I would go through all of the System Performance Tweaks on this website to optimize Windows for recording audio.

i uninstalled, reinstalled, uninstalled, reinstalled the mic port pro driver, changed the settings (which perhaps i had overlooked previously though how i could have recorded at 96000 i don't know) and now it's working better. than. evar.

it's still a mystery, though, and i will optimize windows for recording thanks to that info you gave me, george.

one thing that is continuing to happen is the loose cable that connects the device to the computer. sometimes it connects (whereby the light ring illuminates) and other times it does not, and is very sensitive to touch. i might move the thing a bit and lose the connection. of course, seems likely the cable is the culprit. it seems very loose and wiggly at the device connection end (not usb end). does anyone else have this problem and/or has anyone replaced the device cable and if so, did you get it from centrance? i think it's proprietary, though it looks common. i've swapped out similar cables to connect the device and no dice. (hey rhyming!)

it's a standard USB 2.0 to mini USB cable. you should be able to pick one up most anywhere --- if you don't already have several laying around the house from cameras and such.

i've spoken with them already, george. but they hadn't heard of the problem and were mystified.

todd, i've tried a few -- black and white -- to no avail/success.

George:

re "Never can get the SoundCloud player to work on my Macs."

Are you by any chance on using the Flash blocker plugin called Click2Flash? I am, and was mystified about my playback problems. Then I went to the Click2Flash menu while on a SoundCloud page and selected "Load Flash for frontmost page." Finally got actual sound out of a SoundCloud player!

Apparently, SoundCloud uses some hidden Flash mojo to enable its player.

Just a guess. Hope this helps.
