Hi all! My name is Joaquin "Quino" Moreno and I'm so excited I have found you all and have been welcomed to joined this exclusive community! I am an absolute Newbie to the field of Voice Acting so let the newbie bashing begin!!!

In all seriousness, I have been looking for a VO forum to call home for a few weeks now, and I'm really optimistic I have found a virtual home to kick back, relax, and learn more about the wonder field of Voice Over.
Just a little bit about myself, I have acted all my life. With the highlight of my screen acting career being when I was captured for all of 0.002396 seconds as an extra on "The Wire". I lost my love for performing when I entered college and that's where I discovered my new love. Radio. I thought I wanted to be a radio DJ (and still kind of do). Studying radio gave me the key skills I needed to edit vocal tracks, which I believe is a huge advantage.

While taking an Announcing and Performance class, is when I first discovered I would be pretty good at voice-overs as I was the star of the class (atleast I was in my own mind). As I was able to play a number of different characters with conviction. But during thise time, it didn't dawn on me that I could make a career out of this type of work. I didn't realize I had the skills and ambition to make a career out of this work until about 2 weeks ago after being rejected for the 398th job I've applied to since graduation last May.

Sorry if I seem to be rambling a bit, but I'm just uber excited about getting started in my new career. A career I know I was born to do, a career where I don't have to look busy while doing "busy work". But more importantly, a career where I'm self employed and don't have to bust my behind for minimum wage. Where my ends are solely determined by the work I put into my product. Looking forward to networking/mingling with you all!!!

Wide eyed optomism is a wonderful thing. So is coming to the realization that enthusiasm paired with all the facts is much more powerful.

Welcome to the group Quino! I'm new too, and you are in for an education. Keep reading and keep learning. Cheers! Wink

Welcome! And what Jeff said - there is gold to be found in the archives. But as far as busting your butt.... you'll likely put in more hours in this career than you will in most others - but if you love your work, you're doing what you love.

And in many occasions, you'll find that the most severe boss you ever had...is going to be yourself! Welcome to the forum. Wink

Wasn't it Clint Eastwood that said "I got into acting because I didn't want to work 40 hours a week. Now I work 70"?

It's a job you pretty much live at times. Totally worth it though.

Thank you all for the warm welcoming! I really do apreciate. I hope my statement about not wanting to bust my behind for minimum wage was misconstrued. I'm definitely down for the challenge and I'm not getting into this field because I think it's an easy way to make a living. I'm getting into this field because I honestly think it's my calling and voice acting is what I'm supposed to be doing. I'm not looking to get rich or famous (of course if it happens I will embrace it like the next publicity whore), but I'm honestly just looking for a way to make a comfortable living.
