you could go back and forth forever comparing this software to that software, and what one can and can't do....no software is perfect...and believe me, I've tried them ALL....the issue really is, what are your needs?
fact of the matter is, there's plenty that PT can do that SForge can't... one that comes up all the time is the region list in PT, where EVERYTHING is saved... |

Great point, Melissa!
The batch processing and stacks in Twisted Wave can blow away Pro Tools when it comes to getting something done fast and consistently. I don't think the learning curve to Pro Tools is the primary reason I don't recommend it to VO's, but rather it's the unbelievable amount of support required to keep it running well. Ever spend much time reading duc.avid.com? I have, I get paid to do it, and it makes me sad when I see my clients waste days, weeks, or months of their lives dealing with inane error messages like "neo access error" because they used the wrong type of Firewire drive, or the record drive wasn't formatted correctly so you can only transfer files from it, or you need to play with the number of CPU cores to fix this or that, or you can't for the life of you figure out why it's behaving strangely because you accidentally bumped a tiny, non-descript button in the Edit window, I could go on...
Let me know when voice-acting became recording engineering, someone? _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

Not really fair to reference the "DUC" because the great majority of people there are recording a mulitude of tracks with many FX and are taxing systems beyond what they are capable of.
I've been using PT on my mac mini for going on 3 yrs with a ext firewire drive (and not an Oxford Chipset, mind you) and have not ONCE had a single crash, or glitch, ever....
Open a blank voiceover session.....highlight the record button....hit Command - Space...and commence to some serious voice actin'... couldn't possibly be more simple.. |
