@J.S - Great marketing savvy indeed. I too collect the cards, make notes on the back, and then put them into a spreadsheet. The hardest work is figuring out from a massive list of attendees, who will actually benefit from my services.
As for the giveaway, time did not allow for it this time around but duly noted.
I like the stapler/notebook idea.... Follow up is the key IMHO... _________________ Perry Anne Norton VO

Amy Snively for President.
And thank you Perry. I'm glad some of my suggestions may be helpful.
As for the rest of it. (the massive list of attendees)
It comes down to qualifying questions. Those that bite and play along with me often tend to be people I can get to appreciate what I might bring to the table.
I will aks things like What they like most about their current system (or vendors) or talent they work with and at some point ask what they like least.
Ask why or how they have come to hire people.
Sometimes I can get them to give me names and at the very least I can try and track those people down online and find out more about them.
I think the mistake that some people make, and I fall into it too, is acting like a walking commercial. Usually there's more to be gained by finding out as much as possible about them. WHether you wear a piece of clothing that is memorable , haveinteresting business cards or something else that will help distinguish doesn't matter so much as actually having something you can relate back to, as in "I was the one wearing the South Park tie" or I was the one who did the John Wayne impersonation for you". _________________ j.s. gilbert

This is cool. Thanks, JS, for your comments. It's interesting to see ideas on how connections can be made via such means.
I'm curious to know how you determine which trade shows are right for you to attend. Do you just look at the calendars of events for local convention centers and hit as many as you can, or use some other method?
