When the homeless guy with amazing pipes story broke, I got about 20 emails from friends/acquaintances/strangers with all the same message : "I totally could do that!! How do I do voiceover?".

This is my response:

Feel free to pass it on to all those folks saying to you: "I sound JUST like the movie trailer guy!"
Cheers,

Love it!

BTW, Mercedes, you really ought to consider voiceovers. You have a great voice for radio.

cool

It must be said, however, Mercedes that you DON'T have a great face for radio. You're much too beautiful for that phrase to stick.

And let me ask you this: Have you ever seen Mercedes and Sally in the same room together? Hmmmmmm....?

Makes one wonder, doesn't it?

Mercedes,
I thought your video was well done and right to the point. I retweeted it on Twitter.

Thanks all! Glad the video is getting a good response. I did get a few "we don't want no new people thinking they can take our gigs" emails... but not many!
And I don't look like Sally. Sally looks like me.

You go, girl!

Well said, and very entertaining. One thing I'd add is, one also has to be really, really talented. But all your info was dead on and very helpful/useful.

SO glad you touched upon animation. Contrary to what many may think. even though I do a lot of animation, it's probably 20% of my annual income from VO. Commercial, imaging, promo, etc., is my day to day. And that's the way it is for most who do animation. There are only so many cartoons done in year. But commercials are daily.

I'd also like to reiterate what you said about competition. No matter what you are doing with your life, there will be competition. So what??!! You are the only you doing what you are doing. If they want you they are gonna hire you. If you are preoccupied with competition and statistics it's going to come through in your auditions. Even if it's just a teeeny bit there, that's the teeeny bit that will prevent you from winning the gig. The mic will hear you are in your head and not committed 100%. The mic loves confidence. Your video oozes confidence, along with charm. Continued success to you!

I had a few words to say about Mr. Williams in my voice blog also: http://cyclometh.com/?p=233

I can't help but be nauseated by the coverage and the perception that it gives people about this field.
