|
|
I've been contacted to audition and provide a rate for a 17-minute visitor center video for a national park. What is a fair rate to propose for finished audio? $350? What should I be considering when calculating a figure for a project like this?
Thanks much! _________________ J. Christopher

JC, if they're talking about 17 minutes of running narration, I personally would be looking more at the $500 to $750 range for that. $350 is a bit on the slim side. Then again, they ARE on a park's budget........ _________________ Scott R. Pollak

In a bidding situation that's a price that should keep you in the running. Otherwise I'd use $30 per minute as a base price to work from.

Yep, I'd quote between $500-$700. _________________ Liz de Nesnera O.A.V. ~ Livin' The VO Dream!

17 minutes = roughly 8.5 pages of narration copy. (I usually quote by word count, cause fonts and types will kill you) so rounding up to 9 pages (Moe's rule of thumb- always round up for billing) 9 x $75 per page (because it's over 5 pages, anything under that is $100 per page for me) = $675. That would be my quote. _________________ Moe Egan

I would quote $550 but, because it's a worthy non-profit organization, would be willing to do the job for $450 if they asked. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

$1200.00 It's a national park, it will run for ever and ever. _________________ The Blog:

I agree with Mike--It will run for years and be seen by countless visitors.
While page or minute-based pricing is a useful starting point, it doesn't take usage into account, and that can often change the picture dramatically. |

Well, I submitted my proposal and audition, the kind producer told me he liked the price and the mp3 I delivered. I was able to get more than the original $350 I was thinking about. Now, it comes down to the client liking what they hear.
Thanks to everybody who responded with numbers. I learn a lot. _________________ J. Christopher

Let's look at it this way. If runs for 4 years at $1200, that's .83¢ a day.
But it's more than that, it the fact that you only get what you ask for, and if you want a pay raise you've got to give it to yourself. And if you all started giving yourselves pay raises, they will pay. _________________ The Blog:
