My DW is a culinary school graduate, so occasionally I can get away with giving her a fancy piece of kitchen equipment or a special knife...but that's it. However, I'm afraid a piece of jewelry from J.C. Penney wouldn't make the grade either.

Also amazing is she remembers everything she's ever given me. As we go through the house deciding what to take with us on the move and what to give away, I sometimes get the slightly cool, "but I gave that to you on your birthday in 1998" or some such. "We were at that little bistro on the Rue de Chancón. You wore blue, the Nazis wore gray. We'll always have Scottsdale."

So, of course, we keep it.

Thanks for the reminder, Mike. I've made a few gift stumbles over the years (home appliances, electronics, etc.) and really don't want to end up back in the doghouse again. I think I'll save this link and re-watch it before every Christmas, birthday, and anniversary.
