Here's an interesting problem - my pal is having a problem in Audition. At about the 40 second mark the pitch changes, goes up, when he is recording. It doesn't happen every time but it's obviously annoying. Any clues as to what is causing this? _________________ 006 member of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Mic. Bonded by sound.

pitch changes are sometimes due to a change in the sample rate...save a portion of the file pre-:40 mark and post :40 mark to see if the sample rates vary
otherwise, there is obviously some type of automation somewhere that is triggering at :40
what version of Audition is this? |

It seems like Audition 3 has some funky quirks with regard to sound cards that show up as pitch problems. Bring Windows 7 into the mix and it gets even more weird. I know that when I would assign it to use only one sound card and then open and preview a track, as soon as I'd insert that track into my session, the whole session would be pitched up in real time. Assigning the audio preview function to my on-board card, instead of my recording card solved this.
Also, Windows 7 doesn't like to share it's default card with anything else so make sure Audition is using this or you might have problems. Having the software assigned to use a sound card dedicated only to it is always a good idea. _________________ Joe Szymanski

not sure if this is OT, but every now and then in Audition it simply cuts out for a fraction of a second during recording. pisses me off, especially when it happens during an EXCEPTIONAL read! |

JTVG - thank you. I figured it was card/rate related and yours is an awesome example.
CC - not OT at all. That happens here, too, and it's a wicked pissa, as we say in these parts. _________________ 006 member of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Mic. Bonded by sound.

i have the "cut out" sometimes too - i figured it was the software getting ahead of the hardware i.e. hard drive buffer running out (or something) - i know there is a setting SOMEWHERE you can adjust. i think when i find a 10,000 rpm hard drive at a god price i'm going to buy it/try it and see if that helps. ALSO - i have found that recording to a hard drive OTHER THAN your system drive helps a lot. ymmv. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

Correction - this should read "make sure Audition is NOT using this." _________________ Joe Szymanski

AA 3.0 is not compatible with certain programs open on the desktop at same time...ours is an automation/production processing program (radio) and is not available to general public, it causes pitch weirdness so we have to make sure both programs are not open at same time (yeah I know)-might want to check with adobe support. _________________ jonahcummings |

cc: increase your buffer size. that should take care of the gaps in record/playback. the "help" actually does help finding and changing the settings. once you find what your computer likes, it should clear up the problem.
...maybe i'll stick with my AA 1.5 a little longer. _________________ rowell gormon

I still use 1.5. If I turn on the computer and start recording right away, the recording is a mess (lots of skips). That's a relatively new problem (in the last year).
If I let everything warm up for a while I do not have that problem. I'm not motivated to try to figure it out because everything is fine if I just turn everything on "one while" before I need to start work. |
