I was expecting some tweaks were needed but I must admit I was floored with Mike's response. I sent Mike a PM which I am grateful for his reply. I thought perhaps this may be a benefit for others so I have copied it below.
Mike I appreciate yours and others frank and honest assessments. One of the many reasons VO-BB is such an awesome resource!
I will have a couple of big challenges ahead. First, the additional cost to fix and the ceiling. I am 6'4" and and any adjustments there will turn this into a sit down only booth.
Mike, thanks again for your time and expertise!
Quote: | Mike, thank you for your time and feedback. I will admit your reply knocked the wind out of my sail, but I appreciate the candid and frank response. I am not quite sure what to do at this point. I am well aware you can't get something for nothing but I was certainly hoping the booth was going to perform better. Got any inexpensive recommendations?
Do you want to buy some firewood?
Sorry Jeff
I didn't want to give you the bad news, but when I saw the design of what you built, I knew there was going to be trouble from the start.
The big problem comes down to the fact the design is a cube; 1 to 1; unison.
THis kind of design should be avoided, not only for large rooms but also small rooms also.
THe next problem is the foam treatment you used in the room. It's just not thick enough. And it does not provide the king of absorption needed to control the rooms resonance.
The only thing that's going to bring your room into focus is Rigid Fiberglass Insulation.
You are going to need Super-Chunk basstraps in the standing corners, and and 2 to 4 inches of rigid insulation on the rest of the walls. Also a 4'x4'x4" cloud over the recording area, with about a 3" to 4" airgap between the ceiling. This should put the room in focus so that you are single sound source.
