(I would have thought a solid hour with any one of those guys would have sorted this out...)

I've brought this up before on another board Daniel once haunted. But the
master of the darkness concocted some ghoulish, densely verbose drivel,
which amounted to little more than Victorian double-talk.

Bailey,

You're right. I've left that site in the dark focusing more on getting my own built. I had written that up a long time ago posting those in lieu of me listening to those people. Nothing I would do today, but thanks for bringing it to my attention. I have since cleared it all out.

I've never intended any of these "productions" to represented as demos. It was a rush to get samples out there so that I would not be silent in the VO world when a possible opportunity may present itself.

Now, I have had more recent success by just auditioning with specific material for jobs, rather presenting the material previously put together.

Thanks again.

Cheers

Hey Jeff I got one too. But I got my message in a PM.

I must share:

I'm not sure what all this means, but it means something.

Funny thing is, he started out in a decent voice on yours, and then it seemed he realized the mic was on, and he became the Prince of Darkness again.

What an exciting weekend, thus far.

Daniel: Why are you talking like that? Gasp

Dude. My best advice to you right now is to call your mom (or someone similar) on the phone and leave the mic on. Talk about your childhood or lunch or politics or anything. Make sure the conversation lasts at least 15 minutes-- at least long enough for you to get involved in the conversation and forget about the mic. Delete at least the first and last five minutes, and then you're left with your natural speaking voice.

Once you know what THAT sounds like, compare the tragically-affected recording you made for "Jeff." (BTW, it took me forever to figure out who "Jeff" was!) Keep listening to both until you're sure you can hear the difference. And don't bother telling me that your recorded message is your natural speaking voice, because I won't believe you (and nobody else will, either).

Until and unless you can find your natural speaking voice, your potential for VO success is nil. What you're selling is not what folks are buying. Period.

Mike- not really. I know what you mean, but at the end, I just got relaxed and I do go into this "2am" styled Soul voice.

Amy- thanks, I wasn't necessarily trying to sound that way, which I'm sure you know, but i'm well aware of what you're addressing. It's the pattern of speech I tend to take one when trying to explain something, even when the mic is not there. Promise.

Oh for Pete's sake! a " '2am' styled Soul voice," that's load. Quit making excuses. You're so wrapped
up in the way you sound to others, you don't even know what your real voice sounds like.

Heck- If I was a cop and pulled you over for shooting the man on the moon, and you answered me like
the way you spoke in those files, I'd arrest you on principal.

You sound fake, you sound phony, and you've got a lot of "things" to sort out.

The last time I offered to help, I posted a pretty decent piece of copy for you to read. Despite the
warnings that I was wasting my time.

They were right.... You wasted my time.

I was willing to help. And you didn't even have the common decency to give it a try.

And that dog wont hunt.

And no, you may not have my Elephant. Until you try

Coincindental you bring that copy up Mike. I've been going back to that since your comment left a couple of days ago. The Disney material really does trip me' up though. You'll have it sir

This thread is bordering on the burlesque.

He must really want the Elephant.

But he must do it the right way... In a conversational manner.

"There are none so blind than those who refuse to see."

Daniel,
My suggestion now would be to continue in the direction you have planned for your own voice over career. If it works for you... fine. But I fail to see what you would gain by posting demos in the Critique forum if you don't care to consider any suggestions for improvement.

I would suggest you read this carefully before posting again.

Bailey,

Yes, I've read the forum's rules before. I don't quite see the line I'm crossing there, unless you're referring to me not actually posting legitimate demos.

Thanks.

I can understand that from this site, one may believe I'm refusing to take direction; but I'm still curious as to how your observation results to that conclusion.

Everything these people have said has helped me in the past year, it's in my head, and gradually exercised. Split between various places in the film world in the past year, exercise and coaching has been there, but shallower than I would like. It has been just until now that I have pushed much aside to devote hours to the mic.

Thanks for your input.

Thanks for the Avatar suggestion, Mike. You forgot the Doorway though, I've got the key anyway; so I'll take care of it.

I'm gonna run these takes (of the Disney Tour) by my engineer, and I'll have something to you when he and I can both sync our schedules(later this week).
