I thought I spotted something and so did a little fiscal investigising. What I discoverated is utterly staggering, in fact I uttered "my goodness I am staggered"

The best case for not faffing about I can find .... In my search/effort to get an agent in either New York/LA I have found or fallen over an extra $250,000 of VO work but I still have not signed with an agent.

Fellow Voiceroverists, if you think the above is simply me showing off you've missed the point completely.

No worries, Philip...lots of important things (among them: motivation, inspiration, determination) can be gleaned from the sentence above. None of them has anything to do with showing off.

Hold on. Wait a minute, now.

I'm not saying I doubt your numbers, Philip. That's impressive.

That's just a tease. Come on here, we need stories.

Falling over a quarter million dollars in your search for an agent? There are beans to be spilled.

If you're gonna get our attention, then deliver the goods.

I know what you mean, Bill. The full, long winded story would take ages to type and would probably be easier to relate as a dialogue.

In looking for an agent I try to find out, who they are, what they do, who they represent and in doing this I usually..NOT TRUE...ALWAYS go off at tangents because there will be some other grain of information I find.

Looking at info about the leading (aren't they all) VO agency in LA I saw something in a search regarding a Chicago ad agency. In the link was a Tel No ..........Mmmmmmmm 1100am (Chicago time) Tuesday. I'll call.

"Hello. Oranges and Lemons, Sezdah Bells OHobo Tounge Saint Clements"

"Hi. It's Philip Banks. I need to ask one of your creatives a quick question, any one free?"

BIP_BEEP_BRRR_PIP

"Hi...Philip? Trey Arcado here senior copywriter."

"Trey, thanks for taking my call. Very quick question for you..."

"Sure..shoot!"

"If you run radio or TV campaigns needing a good British male voice who do you call?"

TREY LAUGHS

"Seriously?"

"Yes...Seriously"

"Can you shoot me an email with your contact details. It's Trey dot ..etc"

"Thank you. I'll do it now"

"Nice goin' man"

BUPA International TV commercial ran during Superbowl this year ....QED

Philip, I'm not the least surprised as soon as you asked the question your audition was over and you got the job.

Well I tried it with a big agency too, "If you run radio or TV campaigns needing a good British male voice who do you call?"

And they said, "Do you know any? I mean it's certainly not you. You're doing a very bad John Cleese from Fawlty Towers."

But I got a gig anyway...an Internet ad for his brother's Fish 'n Chips stand. No pay, but all the fried cod I can eat next time I'm in Atlanta....

Atlanta, Kansas (pop. 250).

They pay $250 for a bottle of pop? Vimto is good but it's not that good? Must require a 2nd mortgage for a pickled egg and a wagon wheel!
