Another +1 for bad ram.

Had a problem recently on one of my Macbook Pros but only when running Windows on it: it would freeze from a few seconds to a minute or more, and then return to normal before doing it again a few minutes later. (For those unfamiliar with doing this, Macbook Pros typically run Windows really, really well.)

A friend suggested bad ram, I followed their advice and replaced the ram (a whopping $109 for 4 gigs from Crucial) and the problem completely went away.

Yep, Mac machines love there RAM to be just so. Which is why I only get my RAM from one trusted source- 'cause they always ask the hard questions before they let me buy.

thanks all for your excellent help. we ended up backing up every little thing and wiping the computer then rebuilding it on sunday. so far so good ...

my computer guy thinks i was hijacked, used as a bot to store and send information.

oddly, i'm thinking rosie, the jetsons maid. that kind of bot i can handle.
