How do you pronounce it?
I tend to say in-KWI(long I)-ries.
Others prefer IN-quih-ries.
What's your norm? _________________ DBCooperVO.com

I actually pronounce it both ways depending on the sentence it is being used in. Sometimes one or the other just SOUNDS better and comes more naturally to me depending on the given sentence. _________________ TG2

I've been racking my brain on this one. For the life of me I can't figure out which one comes naturally, they both feel right. I'm not sure I've ever had it in copy. _________________ Hart Voice Overs Blog

Well KWI is first choice in Merriam-Webster. The usage I remember hearing most is that an official investigation is an IN-quiry and everything else is an in-KWI-ry. All that Brit TV on PBS and such.
InQUIring minds want to know!

Used ta say the first one, but lately, now, the second one.
How 'bout PRESTIGIOUS?
Is it Press-tee'-jus or Press-ti'-jus?
DATA? dat'-tuh or day'-tuh?
GALA? gall'-uh or gay'-luh?
Just thought I'd expand the theme a little.

I say Press-TEE-juss because of the word "Prestige".
Data always has a long "A" for me.
I bleeb I say GAY-la for the fete.
How about EXQUISITE?
I've always said EX-quisite, but my CBS producer insists on ex-QUI-zit.
Both are correct. _________________ DBCooperVO.com
