Possibly a student of the Master Card Thrower/Magician/Martial Artist/Actor, Ricky Jay.
I was a Technical Director for concerts and events in the late 70s and met him when he was doing a show at one of the university theaters I was a director. He showed me how to throw cards and was a truly amazing act. He could stand at a distance of 50 ft and throw a playing card through a newspaper page and stick it into a banana that was placed directly behind the page.
He said his martial arts training and concentration enabled him to master and perform this type of art. |

If I saw him at a networking meeting and he offered me his card, I might flinch first.

Wow! How on earth does someone discover a talent like this?! Even if he studied with someone...how did THAT person decide one day to start throwing business cards? I love random _________________ Threadjackers local 420

I bleeb there's a hint to how he got so good at this in the video. I think his job was/is to deliver business card spam door-to-door. _________________ the Amy Snively family of brands for all your branded thing needs.

That could have been #7 of Philip's "The top 14 Voiceoverists tips ever!!!"

I'm still trying to figure out how somebody decided to climb to the top of a mountain in South America, pick some red berries off a bush growing on the hillside, dry the red berries in the sun, throw away the red part and keep the green thing inside, roast the green thing until it turned brown, grind up a handful of the brown things, pour hot water over them, and know it was a cup of coffee and drink it. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

In the days before Internet, TV, radio, books and all that stuff, there wasn't much to do.
"Hey, what's this plant?" "I dunno. Wanna roast it and eat it?" "Sure!"
What we haven't heard about are all the early experiments that went oh so wrong.

This is going waaaay OT
I'm a bit of a coffee geek (roast my own espresso blend and all that good stuff), and the story is that high on a hill, was a lonely goatherd (stop it!) who saw his goats starting to "dance with abandoned glee". Kaldi (the Ethiopian goatherd in question), investigated and soon found himself dancing with the same abandoned glee at the goats after eating some of the same red berries. The local Imam, seeing both Kaldi and his goats getting all unnecessary, experimented with the berries (parching and boiling etc.) and ended up with a concoction that would stop his fellows falling asleep at prayer. This spread throughout the region's monasteries, and then the world, where (to bring us back on-topic) such caffeine-fueled fervor led to such activities as business card throwing. _________________ Bish a.k.a. And coffee has come almost full circle, going from goats eating it and dancing, to Sumatran civets who contribute to the most expensive cup of joe in the world, Kopi Luwak, also known as "cat poop coffee".
Cute, huh? The cat-like creatures eat the beans, poop them, and someone washes those beans, roasts them and then sells them to you for way over $100 a pound.
We've come a long way baby!

That video was pretty incredible! There's one out there where there are some kids able to toss ping pong balls into a cup in about a million different ways...no telling how long it took for them to get it right, but it's pretty incredible, the skill some people just seem to HAVE.
And as far as failed experiments go...does anyone remember that first demo I posted here about a month ago? I'm hoping THAT turns into "coffee" someday... |
