Sorry if this had already been discussed..but have any of you tried Harlan Hogan's VO:1-A mic yet? I'm loving it! It's got the warmth of my RE-20, but it also has the crispness of my AKG C3000b. What do you think about it? _________________ Dave DeAndrea

Haven't heard any examples of the mic but I didn't much like the look of the housing with that big signature across it. Just thought it looked a bit tacky. |

If it's a directional mic then it is symbolic of where the VO business is heading ...In the wrong direction..........Unless we do summat abaht it. |

Ever since Hogan's new mic came out, I've been following the feedback closely, and the response has been mostly positive. The quest for the best voice-over microphone is a never-ending one, and a winner will probably never be crowned. There simply are too many variables at play.
The best tests and the most sophisticated ears mean nothing, if the mic doesn't flatter our very unique voice and if the person using it has limited talent, training and experience.
Here's my contribution to the discussion about Harlan's VO: 1-A:

MXL already makes nice affordable mics for VO (v88, 89, Genesis, 2003a...and is it the 909 that Tom Test and Harlan Hogan use already?) this is just branding.
AT, SP, AKG, MXL, ADK...so many companies making decent sub-$300 microphone. Take your pick, not the one with the branding. This mic is for people who can't research and figure out what works for them. _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

Thanks for the info, guys.
This will probably come across rude...and it's not intended to..but...well...here we go...
I appreciate your willingness to share your opinions. However, the question was, "have any of you tried Harlan Hogan's VO:1-A mic yet?" Looking for input from those who have given it a test drive.
And, Lance..gotta disagree. I've researched...this one works for me...I don't mind the branding. _________________ Dave DeAndrea

You're not being rude at all. Is there a way people can try it without buying or is it an online purchase? Or a "money back if not delighted" guarantee? I'm sure I've read in other gear posts of suppliers who offer some sort of try then buy. |

Here's Harlan's reply to the question, Phillip:
Yes it's all over the sales page. I'm adamant about this... every mic will sound different on different people so I want people to try the mic and if it's not thier choice send it back no questions asked. BTW only have had one returned out of 100. _________________ Dave DeAndrea

You're not being rude at all Dave, and it's nice that you are sensitive about that. Sorry I didn't answer your initial question. The short answer is...I haven't used it by choice. _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

I did, and here's my blog post about it with audio samples. Impressive sounding mic, a new go-to fave for anyone starting out in VO, or even serious pros.

Apart from the signature how does the mic differ from the off the shelf MXL mics? |
