I am deciding whether I should get my demo CD labels professionally printed or have them stamped with my logo. Was wondering what everyone else is doing. I have always printed them myself but it does look rather amateur. Also, if you do get them labled or stamped, who do you use? I wouldn't even bother doing this but I still see that most agents want demos on CD for submissions. Thanks!

I'm using an Epson R320 printer and CDs with a printable surface.
Looks pretty spiffy. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Definitely use inkjet printable CD's. Those adhesive backed paper labels are a pain, look amateurish, and can actually prevent the disc from playing properly (certainly NOT conducive to getting the gig!).
You can easily get a printer that can print directly on CD's for well under $100, and the discs are very inexpensive too. |

Anybody here use Lightscribe? I bought a drive with the Lightscribe feature quite a while ago, but haven't used it yet. However, I just got my first-ever request for a demo CD, and I'm debating whether to label it via Lightscribe or a traditional adhesive label. (Eventually I'll get a printer that can print to CDs) _________________ Justin S. Barrett

I had the Epson R320 and I loved it until a power surge killed it. My newest computer came with lightscribe so I've been using that. Not as spiffy looking since it's monochrome but it's easy. _________________ Hart Voice Overs Blog

Yeah, Lightscribe is spiffy if you can design awesomely in shades of grey which end up as gold and deep brown. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

You all have far too much time on your hands. Get a lad in Basingstoke to print you some blank ones. I got him to do 300.

But the ink is really expensive compared to the machine cost (duh). Luckily I'm printing almost nothing these days....it's all file transfer and ISDN. Could not tell you the last time I sent out a demo CD...years ago for sure.
Philip's snazzy pre-printed blanks are a particularly sharp idea, however, for those who care enough to send the very best.

Honestly, I've not sent out a CD in three years. There are agents who ask for them, but I could count them on one hand.
However, it could be a good marketing technique, as no one really seems to send CDs anymore.

Hey Phillip,
That CD makes a statement without saying a word.

I haven't done a CD design in *mumblemumbledy* years, but now y'all got me thinkin'.
Show of hands -- Do you print only the CD and put it in a clear case, or do you do the whole magilla and have tray cards done as well? |
