EP "Philip, can I give you some direction notes?"
PB "I doubt it but you're welcome to try"
Head of News (Laughing loudly) "Banks you ARE a total SHIT!"
EP (also giggling) "Awwwww c'mon!!! You could've just taken my notes and ignored them like you usually do!" |

Ow, that is one bad read. Out of curiosity, how do you know he was even directed? Perhaps no one dared to say a word and the network went with it. I wonder if anyone other voice talents are complaining.
BTW, no one has ever directed me to sound like Morgan Freeman. Guess I'm just not tall enough. _________________ 006 member of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Mic. Bonded by sound.

Truth is that no one cares in the least outside of the tiny world of the poor down trodden Voiceoverist. I suspect that little or no direction was given to Morgan Freeman simply because of the "Wow factor". Dare we direct HIM? Yes, you dare and I'm certain he won't mind in the least. |

Thanks for that link, Dan-O.
Here is a 'director' who clearly hadn't seen Mr. De Niro in any films... or enough to know that he doesn't do 'energetic.' If you ask for Robert De Niro, that's exactly what you'll get. If you want oranges, don't buy apples.

I dunnnoooo....De Niro can get quite energetic and can sell cars...at least try to. Watching the above Tribeca clip lead me to this clip for one of the Analyze This movies...it's rated R in case the sensitive are around you:

Actually, the Today Show has had elements of that since the very beginning. I'm old enough to remember watching the Today Show when it consisted of two white male co-hosts (Dave Garroway and Jack Lescoulie) a while male newscaster (Frank Blair) and a chimpanzee (J. Fred Muggs). And the show was done from a street level studio with large picture windows through which the cameras would occasionally pan the often sign-toting crowd. Once, famously, one of those spectators was President Truman.

Or start a protest against hiring the famous and then not letting them do what they became famous for.

Probably not a real Brit. Just someone doing a fancy accent to make the Yanks think they're more credible than they really are. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Bruce: of course, you're right. De Niro can get plenty energetic. And only moments after I made that post, I wondered if I should have added that for something like the TriBeca Film Festival (the subject of that first clip and which is De Niro's baby), when he says he's energetic enough, that should've been enough for the director.
Lee: Yeah, I knew that the Today show began on street level (in Studio 1A); I just wanted to cover recent years. Did you know that 'TODAY' was created by Pat Weaver, then Vice President of NBC News and none other than Sigourney Weaver's dad?
At some point in the late 50s or early 60s, 'TODAY' moved across 49th Street into 30 Rock, and NBC converted (what is once again) Studio 1A into part of the NBC studios tour. That was where visitors could see the latest models of RCA color televisions and, the biggest draw, to walk in front of a color camera and see themselves on a color monitor. That was big stuff in the early/mid 60s, when CBS and ABC were still broadcasting in black and white. _________________ Mike

Wow, so should we try "going DeNiro" next time we get the "more energy" direction......??
NAHHHHHHHHHHH............probably not.
But it makes for a great daydream! Oh, and I just remembered.....I AM selling cars..... |

me, too, and we have a 5 disc set from those years. he was a groovy cat on that show. but that cbs news intro? blech.
i almost never watch tv, let alone network news, but only last night i tuned in to hear the abc news intro (given the fauxdition lollapalooza) and then switched to cbs, knowing i likely was too late to hear that intro -- i was.
