VO-BB - 20 YEARS OLD!

i had to go into the studio yesterday morning, sunday (1st time ever working on a sunday) to record this for a 6-minute documentary that will be presented this week at a gala dinner in NY. You'll see right away why they hired me for it (no audition, just booked) - it helps that my parents are from there as well so the intonations and slight accents even when I speak English is appropriate for this material.

There are 17 VO files for this project, but here are two that demonstrate the challenge fairly well - I'll try to get a copy of the final video into mpg or something for you to watch when the gala passes.

It really is tough, because as much as I try, some Spanish intonation/accent sneaks into my English (which is acceptable for this audience), but I can't let any English slip into the Spanish, except where the emphasis makes sense for the sentence structure.

I've gotten better at it, but I know it's probably why they took me off the TV show I was doing when I first started, because they wanted more neutrality on both languages... so a friend of mine got it instead.

The funny thing about this is that if it were on history and activists from a South American country, I most likely would not have been the first choice.

EDIT: Just to give you an idea on takes - since I had to record it alone in my studio: The grand total of all 17 pieces was 6.8 minutes in length. But I started recording at 10:30AM and wrapped up at 1:00PM. Then I had to bounce it and email it.

Just got the QT file of the documentary - happy to have it and have credit given at the end all by myself on one screen.

My only concern is that in the editing, there were intentional beats that I gave for emphasis and drama that were edited out... heck, in one spot, half a sentence was taken out. Maybe the public won't notice, but my only concern is if that reflects on me as an inexperienced voice-over who "rushes" through the material?

Maybe it's not a big deal, but I'm wondering if this also happens to Nick when they edit his National Geographic pieces Wink

I am very appreciative of the work and I've seen this guy's work before and love it and this project was rushed because of pressure he was under from the University. So I'm not knocking it, but wanted to open it up for comments.

The minute I can figure out how to condense the 96MB <8 minute file for viewing, I'll let you know.

I'm SURE the public won't notice. They'll be too busy enjoying the message and the wonderful sounds the narrator is making.

Tell your inner artist to take a break. You did your job and did it well.

A suggestion to compressing QT to a much more managable file...

Use MPEG4, you will get it won to size easily, but also remember you mneed to let your viewers know how to get an mp4 player... LOL
