Yes, he is a member and has been kind enough to write to me directly in two different e-mails spaced a few minutes apart:

As you might guess, I shall, as all ready planned, be silent on this matter.

For me, I think it was the odd microphone pictures so I guess I didn't even make it past the banner.

As I am guilty of the initial inquiry about the "contest". I guess I should set the record straight... I had no intention of discrediting a fellow VO artist. As a matter of fact, the discussion of marketing has been a big issue on the VO-BB in the past. In further investigation, I had discovered that “contest” are also used in the realm of Promotional Marketing. I'm not sure where this comes from, but I quote..."Contests offer an attractive marketing vehicle for small business to acquire new clients and create awareness. You don't need to run a billion dollar giveaway like Pepsi, just a valuable prize to your target market."
Mike... no hard feelings. _________________ "Bailey"

Shallow and spineless as I am, now that I know the person concerned is reading postings. I think the idea is lovely and the site is lovely and the coaching talent is .....well, lovely really.
On a more serious note, anyone who is unable to tell the difference between a personal remark and professional opinions/banter is probably in the wrong job.
Contests used for promoting a businesses are a good idea but the prize has to have a perceived value in the eyes of the entrants. To some the prospect of $1,000 (example only) of coaching may be as appealing as a free Pole Dance performed by Philip Banks. Were I wanting to appeal to people looking for coaching my offer would be a voice over starter kit. Sign up for my coaching and one person will receive a mic, mixer, headphones and ....
For a $1,000 investment I think you could get any Newbie out of the starting gate. Take that idea a stage further and the coach could offer to other students the starter pack at a discounted price.
What has Bruce done for anyone lately? I've read on here countless cases of coaching, demo feedback and technical support all supplied by him free of charge. Are we the voice over elite Mafia, rubbing out the careers of potentially successful voice artists and coaches with the click of a mouse? God help us if we ever believed that and to any who believe they aren't free to join this happy band because they fear what may happen to them God help you. |

Somewhere, somehow, in some way, there's some smarmy remark here in reply. I can't think of it!

Here, here! And his sharp wit is a daylifter, that's for sure. Should we paste him on our avatars??!
Curious what Scooter2 thinks; he teaches VO workshops regularly in this market (as you may know from a recent post of his with a link to a cover story in the city's alt. rag)

i don't see anything wrong w/ what he's doing.
other than the spelling error, it's sounds like a cool idea - especially for a noob. why not?
on thing for sure, we have created some hits and links for him, so part of his job is done.
Almost every contest out there can use some improvement or changes in terms of prizes, but what the heck - publicity is publicity. We can all use some form of creative marketing or thinking outside the box.

I'm with you Anthony....in fact, I really like what he's offering. I've been told over and over that the one thing you should really invest in is voice coaching. It ain't cheap. In fact I think I could really benefit from it and I can't afford to invest in it. Too many bills that need paying leaving not enough to get coaching. It all depends on where you're at in your career as to whether the prize is valuable. For me, just starting out, I really like it.
If you go to the contestant site, I entered and am a contestant. All the people that auditioned and made it as a contestant have their audition posted on the contestant page. Hopefully I'll make a good showing. I really want to win this. But as always there is gonna be some really good talent competing.....It will be good practice tho, even if I get eliminated early on.
Anyway, I'm thankful for at least an opportunity to try and win the coaching....plus there's a growing list of things the winner will get. Wish me luck...and an opportunity will arise for the general public to vote. If you think I'm worthy to stay in the contest, don't be shy about casting a vote my way. hahahahahaha _________________ TG2

Well - yeah - you're 100% correct about that. I was referring to his contest. But, yes, if you can't take criticism, you're definitely in the wrong business. Then again, everyone has their days.
