Any devotées of Saturday Night Live in its early years may remember that for weeks the major television newscasts were reporting that Spain's dictator Generalissimo Francisco Franco was near death. This really went on and on. When he finally kicked "el bucketo" in November of '75, SNL announced every week on it's newscast for weeks afterward, "and now this update, Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead."

After two solid weeks of almost non-stop reporting, I'm starting to hear, "and now this update, Michael Jackson is still dead."

I know he is/was a big deal (I certainly mourned the early passing of my favorite music legends) but 50, 80, 100% of entire newscasts 10, 11, 12 days later? Am I off the mark in thinking this is way overdone?

Hopefully after today's memorial Extravaganza!! it will all calm down, but I'm not betting on it.

My bride summed it up perfectly:

Two weeks ago, MJ was a punchline.
Today, he's a minor deity.

"The King is dead" All shouted about Elvis. Now the next king is dead. Bury him.

Long live the king.

Please do not take my comment as disrespect. I appreciate the talent imbued by MJ, but he is dead. Let's get on with life - such as it is...

Toodles

Here in Hartford I flipped on the TV to find every local network affiliate was carrying the MJ memorial as if it were a state funeral. Understanable, except that at the moment there is a kidnapping/hostage situation in progress.

To be fair, I understand the police have asked the stations not to show live pictures to avoid tipping their plans/actions the perpetrator.

What is really freaky is I know both the victim and the alleged perpetrator. He is a former client and, yes, he owes me money.

Every generation, and cross-generation, has to deal with loss of sort.
Dealing with the loss of JFK was my first.
Then Elvis… John Lennon… Princess Diana… Many movie, TV and music artists… and now Michael Jackson.

I think the hardest part of dealing with this type of loss is dealing with the finality of death.
We can’t use white-out, or backspace, or push the delete button.

Two things about loss (death) I’ve learned…
1. Nobody gets out of this world alive.
2. Time heals all wounds.

To those old enough to remember JFK, Elvis, or John Lennon.
Have they been on your mind much since before the Michael Jackson death?

It may take months or years or decades, but time has a way of moving us further away from events that were traumatic, unpleasant or tragic.
It’s okay to say, “I’ll never forget.”, but I thank God I don’t have to relive an assassination or the loss of a loved one everyday in my mind.

I'm done... not drinking... just putting my thoughts on my sleeve.

I dunno... celeb deaths don't get me down, necessarily. Though, I do appreciate their talent and their contributions.

9/11 did get me down though... especially since I was in NYC. Oh, and Ronald Reagan.... I cried for days.

The perp owned an ad agency and I did a fair amount of business for him over the years, He was arrested a couple of years ago for arson when he burned down the summer house he was supposed to turn over to his ex. He owed me money at the time, and I knew then that I would never see it (fortunately, not much money).

Tuesday's episode had a relatively positive ending.

Luckily, Nancy managed to escape unharmed. Today was the day Richard was supposed to turn over the family house to her (which he presumably would not have had to do had he not burned down the summer house) but he torched this house too.
