On my boom stand I hang a small 3 pound weight on the other end to offset the weight of the mic. I gave up lifting 3 pounders years ago, my new curl is a 45 pound dumbell. _________________ Company, villainous company, hath been the spoil of me...

Indeed, a new boom/arm would be much more economical than a new mic. Good idea, DB. I just searched through the archives. Do people still like the QM-50? It certainly looks like good bang-for-the-buck.
P.S. I borrowed a Neumann KM84 and a Beyer M88 from work. Not impressed with either, especially compared to my C1 for my voice in my environment. |

That is exactly what I bought a few years ago. I have been very impressed with the quality. Well worth the money.
I even got a phone call from Marty, just to make sure all was well and that I was happy. Not bad, eh? |

I sell the Rode arm, pretty much identical to the Heil. Nice, clean design, but you can't swap the springs since they are internal. It does hold the beefy Podcaster mic no prob, though, and they work with an M600 just fine.
Have sold many QM-50's, haven't seen one fail yet. Internally wired mic cable is rather cheesy, though. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

Well, I decided on a very workable alternative. Because of how a boom would hang down, I bought a tripod desktop mic stand. Even using its shock mount, I can keep the mic out of the line of sight of the monitor (script) and it's still easy enough to push out of the way when I don't need it.
