OK...so here are 2 samples.

BEFORE TLM103

WITH TLM103

To my ears it does sound warmer...so...what do you think?

Again chain is:
TLM103 -> Alesis MultiMix8 -> PC

I have done no processing at all to the audio....are a new mixer and/or pre needed at this time?

With TLM103 definitely sounds warmer. I'm listening on some pretty good computer speakers, but...they ARE computer speakers, so take it for what it's worth.

The 103 is warmer with more body and more natural "s" sounds.

It sounds "expensive". Good purchase.

What was the other mic? It sounded good, too. But the Neumann
is a very Pro sound.

Thanks Bill!
The other mic is a CAD Equitek e1002
It has served me well for the past 4 years, but I figured now was a good time to upgrade.

BTW, I got the TLM 103, in the original wooden box PLUS the Neumann Shockmount (Everything in their original packaging boxes) for $750 (S/H included!)

So it looks like I'm OK right now without a separate pre...right? Smile

The 103 is a great match for your voice - a good improvement. I think it sounds good and you're not going to notice a pre upgrade until you're looking at Speck/Hardy/GR and higher. Sounds great - have fun with this!

Do you have the spider mount or just the solid base mount?

You guys have NO idea how much this means to me!

I don't mean an ego boost (although yeah, sure that's nice Embarrassed ) but on a professional level to know that I am actually moving forward and that other pros like you guys think I did OK...yeah, that means A LOT!

I would look for a bit more gain, whatever your decision; for either microphone.

The TLM is nice with your voice and style although the level is lower than anticipated.. I would simply like to hear a more solid, robust, full sound with your voice.

There are several ways to achieve this solution: a) mixer with a good pre-amp, b) a new pre-amp, c) adjusting software gain (if possible), and c) all the above.

An over-priced pre-amp is not going to make enough difference to justify the cost. Find a good, clean, higher quality mid-range pre-amp or depending upon the choice of mixer - if you need/desire one, one with high quality pre-amps included.

Although you may be tempted to use a channel strip or a solid state preamp - quell the urge. Many solid-state pre-amps are too pristine in their conversion and the audio may become sterile. Channel strips are designed (in many cases) to add "grunge" or oftentimes have a "dirty" feel when the audio is reproduced.

Tube pre-amps tend to be smoother and reproduce the entire audio spectrum with a bit of natural color.

Caveat: You will hear many sides to the "sound of channel strips and solid-state preamp issue. Make your own choices based upon your needs, your sound, and your budget.

Toodles

Nice buy on the Mic Lizden... FWIW, I've been really impressed with the Pre's that are built-in to the Onyx Series mixers from Mackie...

We purchased an Alesis Multimix USB a couple years ago for a workstation at the radio station and to me it's noisy... May be that particular unit, but it does the job it was purchased for.

I''ve got a 1620 but you really don't need that much for VO... Thanks Gary at BSW!!!

You can add a Firewire card but it's not worth the $450 you'd spend on it.
