I'm auditioning for an animated series and they want a resume. I've not done any professional animation work, so I'm at a loss for the kinds of things to put on a resume. Are they really going to care about the Denham law firm commercial I did? Or the audiobooks? Anyone have a sample I can steal/model mine after?

Any resume should be pertinent to what you're aiming for. I would include any... and all... experience that has made you a dollar, by using your voice. And throw in some charity cases. That will show your softer side.

Wishing you the best.

I'm guessing they want a VO resume as opposed to one for a job application so that'll help with the deletions. I refer to mine as a VO mailer. Every entry counts as they'll show your experience and flexibility.

If this helps VO Mailer Anything VO or acting, included training/coaching related is relevant.

Question: Is Capital "once" correct?

Edited to add:

Philip, you got a mighty voice for that kinda van!!!

Also, just wondering, should a resume be "highlights" - meaning, your bigger jobs, or should every single job you've ever been paid to do be listed?

Jeff, I think it's perfect in terms of it's showcasing your experience. I didn't completely proof it, though. Good luck!!

JK, good list. My only suggestion is dropping the years and edit down to listing the most impressive sounding items in each category (in order of "importance") so it all fits on just one page. Some producers' eyes glaze over when they see more than one page.

i agree with the one page rule. lots of good stuff in there - i'd pare it back to the best and use a phrase like, "including work for ..." or something like that.

Echoing Bruce here!

One page only.
Really.

The only resumes I've seen that go one for more than 1 page are full CV's for academics or artists who have to list every article they've written or show they've ever had.

I'll let others' comment on content. My thoughts are about the visual presentation.

The typeface chosen for the bullet points is a bit of a strain on the eyes. Part of that strain is because it's so thin, but adding to that is the huge difference in size between the upper- and lower-case letterforms. That kind of typeface is better for more sparse use like one-line titles and such, but when presenting a lot of text that you expect folks to read, I strongly recommend picking something a bit easier on the eyes. While good ol' Times New Roman tends to be the bane of designers everywhere, it's a very easy-to-read typeface for large blocks of text. If you don't like that, there are plenty of similar serif typefaces (Garamond and Book Antiqua are readily available on most systems) that would do just as well in terms of improving readability.

I also recommend ditching the bullets in your bullet-point lists. If the dates weren't sitting to the left of them, they'd work fine, but with the dates there they kinda feel awkward. They also feel unnecessary for the one-line "lists" that are there in a couple places. Finally, even though there's only one entry under "Awards," that entry should be at the same horizontal position as everything else above it for consistency.

Beware gratuitous padding and only include a cross section of jobs, needless to say the "sexier" the better. You are trying to establish your competence, credibility and employability. Get the first two right and the 3rd will follow.

Put everything single job I've done on my VO mailer? On what page would people feel the will to live ebbing away?

Excellent points all! Philip, that makes sense.... I certainly want people to continue to have a reason to live. Smile Otherwise, I could end up in jail.

Thanks for this thread! Good one!

Update looks great! Only one thing: The author's name for "The Ultiimate Hair Handbook" is wrapping. I suggest swapping places with the line for "As a Man Thinketh", which I think might fit there without wrapping.
