I had to buy some new headphones after dropping my Sony MDR-V600's. A "gung" developed in one of the channels and would resonate at certain frequencies or if tapped on the left side so off to the chain music center I went. They didn't have those in stock so I went for the 7506's which are the radio workhorses, but wow! Did Sony change the innards on those or what? I didn't like the sound so back they went. I settled on AKG k240's. Nice sound, a bit bassy and need a bit more from the volume knob, plus the semi open back design is a bit weird to get accustomed to since I have been using the Sony's for years. My only gripe so far is the lack of a coil cord that has to be purchased seperately for 30 bucks. The straight cord that comes in the box just tends to get in the way, but a plus is that the cord is detachable.
All-in-all I think for the extra 20 bucks over the V600's, not a bad set of phones.
Just FYI... _________________ Does life start at 40? |

I bought the K240 'phones a while back after using them in our VO booths at work. Love 'em! Only one thing: I wish they'd make a set that has a behind-the-head support instead of the standard over-the-top. Yeah, I'm sensitive to hair mush, so I almost never wear the things "properly." Most times I angle the top forward so that it rests on my forehead. _________________ Justin S. Barrett

I've got a set of K240's that a station engineer gave me in 1983. I used 'em as my daily cans for years, then stuck them on a shelf for years more. Believe it or not, they still work and still sound really good. I recently donated them to my church where they're now attached to the sound board and still working away.
And I promptly bought myself a new pair. |

I still have my K240's from my radio days as well. They are bottom heavy, (aren't we all...) but you get used to that.
One drawback is the open back however, for close mic work they will feedback if you turn your head looking for the next commercial cart... _________________ Company, villainous company, hath been the spoil of me...

I am still getting used to these. I use headphones about 5 hours a day with all the reporting and other stuff I listen to on the net. These caused a bit a fatigue yesterday to my poor eardrums unlike the Sony's did but today is a bit better. I think I still prefer the Sony's but after finding out that that model is discontinued and I can only get them online AND the fact I will probably only get three years at the most out of a new set, I am sticking with these k240's. Plus these look so cool! _________________ Does life start at 40? |

I love my MDR V600's. When there's a huge project going on, I don't get ear fatigue.
I also checked with a couple of my favorite producers— what phones they liked so I had a grip on what they were hearing. Sony's always came back as a fave but the V-700's are supposed to have more punch. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

It's weird, the playback is great on the k240's but when I am actually recording, I am hearing a different sound to my voice. Maybe I need to tweak my board settings, but its just weird. _________________ Does life start at 40? |
