The time has come where I am at a crossroads. I've decided to shuffle and arrange several things in my life to try and accomodate other things. As you all know, Jen and I are planning on moving near the Washington DC area sometime in the next four months. I have decided to use that time to practice my techniques and get Jen up on her techniques. Then we're off. I'm also reenrolling in school so I can get a teaching degree really quickly. I've decided that summers off would be a very nice thing. That way, I can work full time in VO for three months and part time the other nine, until I can work my way into full time, all the time, VO. . .neat huh? As for my career in Mental Health. . .well. . .it's turning me grey at 31. I don't need that. I want to be able to actually spend time with my family and not be stressed beyond belief. VO is a release for me. I've always loved acting and performing. The only difference is, now, my voice is the only thing that truly conveys the emotions and nuances that my body and movements would on stage. I say this time and time again, but I have learned soooooooooooooooo much from you all. There aren't words enough to express it. If I ever make good enough money at this (or I win the lottery), I'm flying the entire board to my house for a big ol' BBQ!!! Well, for now, I'm done rambling. Thanks for letting me share my thoughts. Hope you all have continued success!

Chris

This is great news. You've reminded me of my last flight there. Rather turbulent. A poor lady used her bag and mine too. <g>

I love DC. I know you will to.

Best of luck to you in DC. Myself? I just moved out of the Baltimore/DC area 4 months ago. If you like congestion and Type A personalities on the road, you'll love it there....hahahahaha. I went the complete opposite....I moved out to the mountains in Colorado....way up in the mountains....into the forest at 9,400 feet altitude! Where life is laid back and not so hurried and rushed. If you have to drive to auditions....make sure you leave way ahead of time, because traffic has been known to stand still on the highways. It used to take me (on a good traffic day) 45 to 50 minutes to go 16 miles from home to work...and that was all highway driving. When I was unlucky enough to get caught in traffic at rush hour/s, It would take me anywhere from 1 1/2 hours to 2 1/2 hours to go the 16 miles. It is beautiful out there though. And you do get used to the driving habits.....just make sure you follow the unwritten rules of the road out there, like, DO NOT use your turn signals for any reason whatsoever....that's a biggy out there. And....DO NOT EVER let anyone pass you. If someone pulls past you and turns on their blinker to move in in front of you (in reality blinkers wouldn't be used), then speed up and close the gap so they can't get in. Also, you MUST ALWAYS speed up and pass someone and cut in front of them (without using blinkers or they'll speed up and close the gap if they know you're moving over in front of them) and then slow down to slower than they were when you passed them. Follow those simple rules of the road and you'll fit right in. Oh...and one more rule to follow on the road....ALWAYS do something stupid that almost gets someone else killed, and then give the people you almost killed dirty looks and swear at them like it was their fault....like they did something wrong. That's another important one. OK...enough advice....enjoy DC! hahahahaha

Get as much education as you can now!... while you're still young (31...sheesh!).
Don't worry about the grey hair... you can color it later.
Keep the VO dream alive... and remember to keep the family dream alive.
Don't worry about living near DC... just think of it as Ground Zero.
... and when you take the family to see the sites in DC, always make sure you've located the nearest restroom first.
Smile

The driving rules they gave you are for Maryland. Virginia has slightly different driving habits (we use blinkers), but the area you're talking about is extremely congested with only three major routes. Learn the back roads.

I had black hair when I moved to Herndon, VA which is right near Dulles Airport, now the silver is coming out soo fast I'll look like an Aboriginal in two years at this rate. It's the aera. Mortgages are $2200-$3000 a month for a small four bedroom on .17 acre lot, unless you're renting which is $1800-$2500 for a 1100sqft.

Personally, if I was moving, it would be to NY or LA, but that's just me. There's tons of narration work to be had....
