Someone just sent me some Session files/settings from an E-Mu 1616. Will I be able to use these on an 0202? I've never used an E-Mu product before and I picked up a couple of 0202's scheduled to arrive today.

The question is not the sound device used, but the program. Did he provide the files in OMF/AAF for ProTools? And, do you have PT?

If not he is sending you files of each and every track used in the compilation; EQ'd, processed, and manipulated as he saw fit... or hopefully the raw files.

A .wav is a .wav, an .aiff is an .aiff, and an .mp3 is an .mp3.

Yes there derivations as in a broadcast .wav or Scott Studio, A/mu-Law .wav, ACM waveform, Apple .wav, Windows ADPCM .wav, etc. But in essence a .wav is a .wav.

Bring the files into your DAW to see if they are compatible.

I could send you .ses files from Sony Vegas, and unless you have Vegas and all the plug-ins I have used your AA or ProTools program will not read the file properly. However, the other programs will read the audio files, although they not be in the right places on the timeline.

Toodles

Frank, the files are marked as session but are settings files specifically for the emu. They are not audio files.

More specifically they are coMpression and processing presets from a 1616. Wondering if they will work in an 0202.

Again, only if they are in the same audio editing program, and IF you have the same plug-ins.

Session files are just what they say they are; a collection of all the data involved with the process of the session. The sound card is not an issue - unless the sound card has specific settings within it's architecture which effect performance.

These are emu specific settings files. They are not from an audio editor.

No, your 0202 will not translate the EMU settings file directly. The program used by the EMU 1212(m) is called "PatchMix".

If the 0202 will use the "PatchMix" program (I am not sure) then you will be able to translate the settings file to the 0202. The settings file is simply the bit rate, sample rate, I/O's, resolution, stereo/mono, routing, etc. which is used by the card.

Thanks Frank. I've never used Patchmix. This should be an adventure... Well see what happens when they get set up.

Always appreciate the insight.
