Just took a quick glance, the site looks fun. Creative.
Seeing the older guy pictured, I figured YOU would sound old.
You don't. You might not want to project an older image.
Then again, you might.
Another observation. If someone were looking to cast a radio
or animated production of a Charlies Dickens story - you would be the man.
If I were casting a Target spot or cool web video, on first glance at your site, I would look elsewhere. The Voice ACTOR image is so strong, I might not think of you to play a "real" guy or fun narrator.
Just my one cent - (adjusted for stagflation)
I'll let others critique the technical parts, but that's what I got on my "first impression".
It looks good. Just make sure it projects the image you want.
Maybe it does. _________________ www.asapaudio.com |

Lose the old guy...and lose the first commercial spot with the constant tone ringing through it, even though you sound good! _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

Thanks for the input
Why would you lose it and what tone are you hearing and what page did you hear it on. _________________ Ron Levine

On the front page, the Commercial demos on the right margin half way down. There's a constant tone ringing through the whole American Airlines spot and it stops immediately with the next clip.
I could see there being some "airplane ambience" being introduced in the mix if that was the intention, but this sounds like a constant technical fault with the recording. Even at low volume it's distracting.
Again, you sound great on that, but I had to go back a few times to hear you and not be distracted by the tone...I'm just trying to point it out to help. _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

Ron... When I open your website, I have to scroll below About Ron Levine Voice Actor to get to the Home Clients Contact and Links.
Wasn't there thoughts mentioned before (in other threads) about trying to avoid scrolling through a website... or is it just my monitor? _________________ "Bailey"

Bailey thanks for your input. You should not have to scroll in most cases, on my laptop which is a 13 inch screen I only have to scroll to see the copy write. It was built at 710 in hight to hopefully avoid scrolling. _________________ Ron Levine

I hear it there too in the same manner. If it's an attempt to emulate in-flight-ambiance it's working against, not for, the demo. _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

I hear the tone like constance sound too and it maybe an attempt at jet engine noise as you would hear it in the cabin. _________________ Gregory Best

I like the site it's fun. I don't think that having the term Voice Actor will limit what parts you get, That is what we are is Voice Actors. In fact there has been discussion about this very thing, moving voice over out and using voice actor. Announcers do voice over.
I do hear the hum in your spot too Ron. It almost sounds like the test tone for the EBS. I thought it might be part of the music but it seems like it's own sound from somewhere,

Like the theme overall...lots of fun!
I think your graphics are WAY overcompressed. The artifacting in the red areas makes my head hurt...maybe a by-product of my colorblindess, I dunno, but there's really no reason to compress your images that much. I can't imagine anybody looking for a v.o. for professional work isn't on SOME kind of broadband connection and will never notice an extra few k of images here and there.
Also, I can't agree with the sentiment that there should never be any VERTICAL scrolling, since there are 287,000 grandmas out there with their screens still set to 640x480. Of course I don't encourage ginormous pages with wasted vertical space, but vertical scrolling isn't an issue so long as your navigation is in the top part of your page.
Finally, I'm just a stickler about this, but I cannot stand embedding QuickTime in websites. It's slow, buggy and often crashes PCs (there are versions of QT / Win out there that are flat-out broken, and QT often hijacks file associations in ways that cannot be undone by remapping them the normal way). Especially since QT offers zero benefit over something like a Flash player that works fine on just about any system. Coupled with a download link, you cover everybody.
(and in your particular case, the ugly white square that the QT playbar renders in sorta ruins your theme ) _________________ Lou Zucaro

And how many of them are shopping for professional VO?
Much like your broadband argument, you can expect a certain level of technical acumen with hiring producers and I doubt there are many with their monitors set at standard VGA. _________________ Jeff

Right but my point is that since you never know what resolution people are going to use, to go all LCD with your vertical space usage is (IMVHO) kinda silly. _________________ Lou Zucaro

Oh, my bad, Lou. I think we're actually agreeing on this issue. There's no reason to shrink everything down to fit in a 640 x 480 space. It's horizontal scrolling that's a no-no (in my opinion). _________________ Jeff
