VO-BB - 20 YEARS OLD!

Hi gang,

I have a Symetrix TI-101 and wanted to know if anyone has schematics for or know where I can get a device to put on the phone line between the jack in the wall and said unit. As it is, I can hear any call that is made on another phone on the same line and that's not a very desirable feature. I'd like a switch that would allow me to take the unit offline until I'm ready to use it.

Thanks, Edo. I'll take a look at it. I've found two other manuals for the 101 since I got it. It's been around long enough that the manuals were put out by two different companies. Smile

That's weird. Mine doesn't do that that I am aware of. But I do tend to keep all the pots down when not in use. I'll have to experiment with that. Let me know what you find about a switch. if you would,

I was going to buy a TI-101. The engineer at the station I work for said that you need to "pigtail" 2 lines into the terminals in the back of the unit...1 goes to the wall and the other to a handset. Then just lift the receiver to make and take calls.
I ended up buying a Gentner AP-10 and bypassed the extra work altogether.

I had a few splitters handy, so there wasn't any extra work involved. I use an old phone I've had forever to dial out and keep the unit on/off the hook. However, even while the phone is on the hook, I'll get a signal from one of the other phones when they're in use. I suppose that, basically, any phone in the house can be used the same way as the one I have in the studio at the moment... I'll revisit the wiring and see what I can come up with.

Mine runs from a splitter direct to the unit. I only have one line. It works great. Like mentioned above. Take the phone off the hook and dial, set the phone down somewhere where it won't cause an echo or feedback and you are set. Are you running it through a mixer Greg?

Yep. I just remembered that I had to keep the fax in line as well (as Fairpoint wanted $50 a month for a second line up here?!?), so here's the chain:

wall -> line in on fax -> line out on fax -> splitter -> 1. phone/handset 2. TI101

I disconnected the cord that goes from the handset to the phone so there wouldn't be any echo. I monitor call status through the mixer. For now, I suppose the simplest solution is to just unplug the unit when it's not in use (as it does tend to hum a bit...).

Hum? Mine doesn't make any noise at all. It sits in the rack with all the pots turned down till I need to use it. It's a good idea to disconnect the hand set. I think I may be in need of something a little better before too long here anyway. Maybe 6 to 8 mos. Then I will have to give the 101 away.
I am glad you got it working for you.. whatever it takes sometimes rignt?

It's a very low hum, like what a monitor makes or something along those lines. I haven't had it cause a problem yet.

So yeah, I've had it working OK, but if I leave it potted up, I can hear when someone else in the house picks up one of the other phones on that line and makes a call while I'm not using it. I'll just power it down when I'm not using it for now. (As much as I like the extra lights and heating... heh)
