So I just tested the Magic Jack (As Seen on TV) and it works ok as a so called Phone patch. I didn't get it for that reason, but hey it's cheap. Just thought I'd let you know. |

I have one, lent it to a friend, and it works as advertised. Not sure what makes it qualify as a phone patch, since you still need some sort of phone hybrid device to patch it into your mixer. I do know you can use it with your computer's internal sound card or a USB device, so it could be used in the same way you use Skype. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

It uses the internal sound card and my M-Audio MobilePre. That way it uses the actual mic input and not a seperate mic. I'm able to link from the Pre to the Computer to link the two for playback. |

Yeah, that's how we use Skype. Different flavor of the same thing in the end.
So mic into Mobile Pre, your recording software and Magic Jack inputs both assigned to the Mobile Pre, and you can hear the caller through the mobile pre, very slick! Mac or PC? _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

PC. It seems to work good enough for now. I don't have that many customers that need to hear me record. But for those that do, it helps keep them happy |

'Got Magic Jack several months ago. 'Plugged it in...opened an account... chose an Oregon local phone number, and haven't used it since. 'Works great, and yes, many similarities to Skype, but....
George, your description of how to run it through the M-Audio Mobile Pre just got lost on me:
"...your recording software and Magic Jack inputs both assigned to the Mobile Pre..."
How do you "assign" those inputs to the Mobile Pre?
Maybe I need to give you a call.
