AKG C114

I had been looking into the AKG C414 or C314. I'm not fond of the bright metallic top end and scooped sound of the C214. The sE 4400 sounded interesting too.
And then, AKG just released a cheap mic that sounds very much like the C414 XLS with a little less low end to it, that I would roll off slightly anyway.
I picked one up and I'm impressed. The high end holds together even under heavy processing, and it has a ready-to-go voice over sound. The specs are good on it too. Well built, and it comes with an excellent hefty good-looking shockmount. It' so substantial that it might be too heavy for some stands! And, it's multi-pattern. The switch is on the cheap end and makes a lot of noise the first few uses, but then it gets quieter. Of course, it's made in China, and AKG is now owned by Samsung. But they did a great job with this. More on it here:
