I was just reading some rather lengthy material on my iPod Touch, and decided to read the stuff out loud for practice. While doing so, it occurred to me that reading from the iPod might be a useful alternative to reading from printed copy while voicing some projects. The swipe of a finger across its surface is super-quiet, meaning less editing than when juggling paper. If all the swiping feels like a hassle, there are teleprompter aHobo Tounges that would allow one to setup a script to scroll automatically.

Would I want to use the iPod Touch like this forever? Heck no. I see it as more of a way to work around other issues, like the lack of funds for a separate LCD monitor, or a way to have self-lit copy while reading under blankets and pillows at a hotel because the laptop is too blasted noisy. I haven't had the latter experience yet, but the funding issue is right up my alley, so I plan on giving this a try, and will report my thoughts on the experiment. If anyone here has done something similar, I'd love to hear about it!

Justin,

A very interesting idea! I'm interested to read about your further experiences.

Justin,

Harlan Hogan mentioned reading scripts/copy off his IPhone in one of his articles pertaining to his PortaBooth, so it's certainly an idea that works!

I have done that several times, the only problem is that the iphone screen can be too sensitive and you can sweep or scroll too far too fast and lose your place, which can be slightly annoying!!!

Has anyone tried using a Kindle for this purpose?

That would be brilliant. The latest Kindle with larger display can use Hobo LaughingF's, I understand. That should mean you can read ANY document on the Kindle you like. Expensive solution, but if you already happen to own one...
However, I don't think there's any flexibility for writing software for the Kindle, like there is for the iTouch.
Yet...

Yes. Wink

Actually, I would love to see a real remote option to control Logic... start/stop/punch, rec arm, and a little meter. There's probably a way to do it with something like Apple Remote, but it would need some serious tweaking.

That's a cool idea, iPhone aHobo Tounge already available for Pro Tools.
I've sold a few Tranzports for this purpose, see

Indeed. And with the Keynote Remote aHobo Tounge, I know it's possible for the iPhone to read back the output from that which is on the Mac's screen, it would stand to reason that it would work with something like Logic... Just read back the status of the meters, etc.

Here you go:

EDIT: Hold the phone (pun intended)... I'm now reading on FOLabs' site that the ProRemote aHobo Tounge will support the Logic platform! Looks like the wish is already granted: http://www.folabs.com/proremote.html
