I have once again been dealing with little unheard "noises" showing up on my software's VU meters, which seems to have screwed some things up. Then my software went Kablooey! (20 minutes before a very important national voice session on Source Connect!!) After some basic poking and prodding on my end the software tech at MOTU recommended replacing the firewire cable between their digital bridge and my Mac. Voila! Everything runs much better. No phantom blips on the VU and operations are smooth.
It looks like these cables don't show obvious signs of failure like audio or electric cables and wires. I offer that having a spare of critical wiring can save the day.

Good advice and glad it got sorted out, Bruce. Haven't had this problem yet, but that's probably because my setup is simple and the only time I tough the back side of things is when I move things around to dust. _________________ Mike Paul
