I currently rent a studio for auditions that has a noise floor around -40 dB give or take, which comes down below -60 after using my fx chain/effects rack from George Whittam. Is it pretty much OK to turn in audio files with light EQ/processing for any audition breakdown that doesn't request raw audio, or are there some categories/clients of auditions that definitely expect raw audio files even without stating it and will look down upon anything with processing?

Here are links to my audio file before and after fx for reference:

They're listening to you and your performance, everything else can be fixed. Most people who've been around for a while have probably been booked based on a phone conversation. Using an iphone416 obvs.

In my dozens of years of auditioning I have only had a request for raw audio from one potential client. And they were nuts. They want totally clean, dry audio for video game characters, and video game characters voices are tweaked to death for most final productions. On my tablet your two samples sound very similar in audio quality. They IMO also sound lifeless. My thinking is most auditioners are listening with the final production in mind with all the “magic” an engineer might bring. That’s why I add a touch of compression and limiting or whatever to my read that I feel might be received better with some polish, some oomph.

My system is set up with the mic pre going into a 1176 before it hits Pro Tools, so everything gets a bit of 10-12-4. No EQ, just the comp. And everything that gets exported goes out with that mild treatment. They can tweak it on their end.

However, that said, I did an audition last week that called for a "40's Mid-Atlantic News Reel" voice. So I gave them my 'raw' track plus a dupe of that track with "the Kings Microphones" plug in so they could hear it 40's style.

I guess it worked...I got the job.
