Hey VO-BBs! My trusty 2015 Macbook Pro is finally ready for replacement. My current setup uses one laptop for recording both at home and on the road. I also use it for day job stuff when I travel, so kinda 3-for-1.
When I travel, I just pull the Macbook out of this awesome vertical dock, grab my road kit (mic, Apollo, cables etc all in a case), and off I go.
What's your setup for home and travel? Do you use a desktop for home and a laptop for the road or do you all-in-one it?
For clarity: the macbook sits outside my booth and the wires from the dock are run through and into the booth, where I have a monitor, wireless keyboard and mouse, and apollo twin. |

I have a MacBook Air M1 for everything. I have my main storage disk hooked up to my NAS drive at home so I can access all audio files, accounting files, media assets from anywhere (and so that I never have my important work files on a device that can be stolen). In the studio I just plug it into a dock with another monitor and interface and when I go on the road I take a 416 and an Apollo Twin.
The Air is PLENTY powerful for anything I do (including audio and video work) and is dead silent so it can sit in the booth without causing noise issues. |

Thanks Jason! I appreciate your perspective. Beautiful studio, too.

Jason, a couple follow-up questions since your setup is so similar to mine, which I love the convenience of:
1. Which dock did you end up going with?
2. Does your Apollo Twin use Thunderbolt 2.0 or 3.0? I have the 2.0 model, and it seems like I'd need either an ugly adapter or a Thunderbolt 2-to-3 specific cable, if such a cable exists for this application. (While attempting a dual monitor setup in the other room I learned not all cables are equal and do what you think they will do.) _________________ Mike Paul
