Once, the magical machine that created a portal of crystal clear communication between my studio and distant lands...
Does anyone use these any more?
or shall I thank it for its service and take it to the electronics recycler? _________________ DBCooperVO.com |

/sigh/
I am contemplating the exact same question.
I keep telling myself to keep it... Just in case....
But as time goes on, the $90/month just seems a waste.
Still..... 😶 _________________ Liz de Nesnera O.A.V. ~ Livin' The VO Dream!

My Musicam ISDN box has been in a pile of old drives, interfaces, and a phone patch device just waiting for that trip to the recycler. Thousands of dollars of once magical electronics destined to be someone’s lunch money.

I brought so much other stuff to the electronics recycler that my Musicam Roadrunner will have to wait until spring, when I pack up another load. But it will be going. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Some time ago, Verizon sent me the letter... your ISDN is going away. So (as I hadn't used it for a few months) I cancelled it. No one has asked for it since. I have the ubiquitous Zephyr and a Prima languishing in the same pile of outmoded equipment as everyone else seems to have. I am having trouble getting rid of them... it seems so... disloyal. _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

Occasionally I'll notice an old mixer or an ISDN unit as part of control panel type sets in sci-fi movies/shows. So at least there's still some practical use for them. _________________ Chris Rice - Noisemaker

I realized that I have a "classic" Zephyr which has been sitting in a closet because I was going to send it back to Telos to get it repaired.
But I think THAT one will get recycled this weekend.

Another pricy high-tech thingie that's now just a community theatre prop.
Sigh.
Add it to the pile ... _________________ * * * * * * * * * *

I have a classic and an Xstream - and I still have my lines - they're just $100 a month. But in the last year, I've had exactly one ISDN session. |

George, I know you weren’t looking for a review of YOU, but, you just keep getting better and better on camera. I have no need of a new mic at the moment but your warm, personal presentation drew me in to watch more. The camera work was also excellent for this. You’re the tops!

I'm having as hard a time parting with my ISDN (A Telos Zephyr XStream) as I did letting go of my land line phone. When it became nothing more than a $45/month 'cell phone finder', I finally let it go. It was an adjustment though.
Just saw an XStream for sale on ebay for $89...but who would want to buy one now? _________________ Moe Egan

"Cell phone finder" - I can SO relate to that.
The thing is, I still have older family members in Europe who still have our landline number that we have had since 1975!
The younger ones use WhatsApp or FB Messenger's video phone,
but until the older generation is all gone, I'll be keeping it. _________________ Liz de Nesnera O.A.V. ~ Livin' The VO Dream!

My 85 year old Aunt (who's state side) was the only one left who still has her landline and ancient address book full of phone numbers...that was also part of the equation. I totally get you keeping the land line to keep the lines of communication going overseas. I think it's the most amazingly cool thing, how your family has stayed in contact 'cross the pond' all these years. A very rare gift few have. _________________ Moe Egan
