|
|
Hi everyone,
I am just starting to get into voice over and I want to be able to voice scripts and listen back using my PC. I have access to cool edit which I can install on my computer. What kind of microphone should I get? I don't want to spend a lot since it is just for practice at this point. If I need to voice something studio quality I have access to a studio at the radio station I work at.
Thanks for your help. |

I use a combo headphone mic set that I got off Ebay, sure the quality sucks, but it works for practice and allows me a certain amount of freedom for body movement. Does the trick |

You can buy the Marshall mic mxl2001 for less than 170.00. It is real good
in quality and it is also a condenser mic which YOU will need for quality
voiceovers. I hope you have a good mixing board....with Phantom Power
on it. You'll need it to power the mic.... Check out musiciansfriend.com
for the mic! |

This Mic gets some nice reviews from folks that record on a budget. Might save you a few bucks. |

Ditto on the MarshallElectronics mics. I use an MXL 1006, which was also came recommended because of price considerations. I couldn't be happier with it.

Bill is right - the 990 is a wonderful mic at an incredibly low price. I've also checked out the Behringer B-1 ($100), a $100 Kel mic, and the Marshall puts them to shame. It almost sounds as good as the Rode NTK tube mic I just got, and it costs $500!
You can get a cheap Behringer mixer with phantom power for less than $60, then all you need is a sound card you csan connect it to and you're in business!

Bailey,
Congratulations!
Hookup goes Mic --> Mixer w/ phantom power --> Computer sound card.
Be sure your audio "in" of the sound card is set to Line and not Mic.

Let me recommend a great sound card you can use... It's an ECHO mia
midi. You can buy it for less than $200. About $177. It has quarter inch
ins and outs... plus it has virtual ins and out as well! I love it and for the
price. It beats more expensive cards like the Lynx One which has latency
problems...in my opinion... |
