Cool, Bruce. What I like about this article is that it puts some structure around the often-heard suggestion: "Experiment!" Sometimes as a newbie you've no idea about some of the relevant variables you're missing.

It IS good to go back to the basics. This is one that is a good thing to do from time to time. Naturally, when a new mic come into the room it is time to play again.
