What it was supposed to say:
"If you have ever had the solution to a vexing problem come to you when you were doing something else..."

What it said:
"when you were doing someone else..."

Hug your proofer today. I sure did. And collapsed in laughter a coupla times.

Sometimes I add things just for her to catch. Couldn't resist adding an alternate read for the chapter heading "Marriage."
She brought it to my attention as "princess bride pronunciation". Yep, she got it!

I caught one editing last week

...it was warm and posey.

Fortunately there was a clean c in the previous sentence so I didn't have to look far.

We used to say "nice and posey" on purpose when my kids were tiny.

I guess it's a bit of a game I play, but I love it when I don't have to crack open the mic again, and through a snazzy editing trick or two I can fix a mistake. In fact I'll occasionally take a couple of minutes to engineer a repair instead of taking 30 seconds to record it right and paste it in.

Good practice for when I have to do it, maybe.

That's often a better strategy, Bruce. Matching tone in pickps can be a real challenge, and an artificial fix is often better than a bad match, or even a match that's only slightly off.

I used to give engineers a hard time for doing that, when I was right there in the studio and could easily give them the word/syllable/breath/hiccup they wanted without all that technical hoo hah.

Now that at least half my studio time is spent editing, I completely get it.

And I get a huge kick out of finding and replacing the odd consonant-or-what-have you.

Yep. I LOVE it when I can do a snip and a move and the edit works magic. Had one the other day where it fit so perfectly and I was raising my fists in triumph. (well, it HAD a been a long day...)

Yes these are the triumphs that warm our hearts and make those around us say "huh?!!" Was thrilling my Mom with Tony's mouth warm up to reduce mouth clickings last night at dinner at the Red Lobster and she just started cracking up.

This is why we NEED this community. Gratitude to the Deebster, and JK and Bruce, and all y'all who make this the place where we can hobnob with those who just flat-out get it!

Group hug!
