Had to share this- I have a friend from Seattle who is shipping me a Chameleon TS-1 Mark II with the large diaphraghm capsule and the new power supply tonight. I should have it tomorrow, so I'm really looking forward to putting it through its paces and doing some side-by-sides with my current mic (Cascade M20u).

Anyone have any experience with the Chameleon TS-1 and want to share their insights?

I would love to hear the TS-1 large capsule. the small diaphragm capsule pencil (now discontinued) was nice, but lacked the kick and body for VO and vocals. It was a good instrument mic however,

Looking forward to hearing some samples.

Well, I look forward to recording some for you! I'm super excited; I've not had a chance to record on a proper tube mic in a long time and this one looks on paper like a beaut.

OK, I got the mic today- I recorded a sample from its manual with my old mic (a Cascade M20u) and with the TS1 MK II using the large diaphraghm capsule.

Give them a listen here, and see which one you like better.

The MKII is a bit brighter and about 4db more volume than the Cascade. Or so it seems,

The sibilance was more pronounced on the MKII, but so was the self noise (most likely due to the tube not be broken-in).

I found Mic 1 to be muted/muffled, but that may have been from the different power source or settings in the pre. This mic had better lower self noise.

Over all, Mic 2 was cleaner, clearer, louder. Mic 1 was nice and mellow, but subdued.

I actually liked them both, but for different reasons.

As you noted on our phone conversation, you had the mics right, Frank. Smile The TS1 is actually louder because I didn't change the gain on the MicPort Pro, so I think it has a lower noise floor than the Cascade.

I still need to do some adjustments with regard to how I use it and change some habits from the Cascade mic, because this one does have more punch to it and I could easily overdo it.

Have fun with the new toy!
