Here's an interesting article that Google Alerts found for me today:
Decorate your Home Voice Over Studio

Some of my favorite the tips therein:

Quote:
You want to make sure that the space is not "arrogant" or "empty".

I've long worried that my space was getting arrogant. You should see the way it looks at me when I flub a take.
Quote:
Have a greatold clothes, sitting in an attic or basement?

Who doesn't?
Quote:
Sure, you can use professional acoustic materials to control sound reflections. For an excellent introduction to an Englishman Auralex acoustic treatment.

I, for one, would love to meet an Englishman Auralex acoustic treatment. But I'm concerned it might make my room seem even more arrogant. Or, at the very least, pretentious.
Quote:
Once you select your workspace, you should rest and professional-quality voiceovers to clients.

I see my mistake. I've been forgetting to rest!
Quote:
Suppose you have a decent computer sound card and speakers. The list is quite short: $ 200 – $ 250 for a> Microphone. $ 40 for a mic pop filter to prevent "popping" your PS, breakfast, and TS.

My pop filter is a big help with P's and T's, but I can't honestly say that it's helped with my breakfast at all.
Quote:
...$ 65 for shareware recording software. $ 45 for a helmet...

Wait-- am I supposed to wear a helmet?

This doesn't sound like the Peter Drew I know...

Nor the Peter Drew I know as well.

Amy...you could have lifted almost ANY sentence out of that and all would have been just as funny! I'll wager that Peter wrote the article, it was translated at least once into another language using shoddy software and then BACk to english.

I'll have to scrounge up my old Jets helmet from the garage and give it a whirl. Don't think my Sennheisers will fit over them though.

Now that Denis Leary quote makes complete sense!

"Life sucks. Get a helmet"

Must have been when he first started doing VO.

Thanks Amy. Now I know the true secrets to VO success.

Get out the old clothes.
Get a helmet.
Stop popping my breakfast.

Thanks. I am now onto the next level.

there are several of us here dealing with corporate work comp/liability insurance issues and the ensuing paperwork - and i think we have taken the helmet idea to heart.

i will not, however, stop popping my breakfast.

A helmet. How could I have forgotten the helmet?

I think I still have a bike helmet around here somewhere. Maybe I could attach a headset mic to it for my Skype sessions. It'll go well with the prom gown sound-deadening material I have up on the walls.

I always work without a helmet, but then I live for danger and excitement. Wink

In case anyone is interested in the article the way Peter originally wrote it:
http://www.peterdrewvo.com/html/home_voiceover_studio.html

When I asked him if he was aware of the one that Amy found, Peter said, "There's not much I can do about scraper sites like this one. They basically send a bot out on the Web to gather content, run it through a program that "rewrites" it by inserting gibberish, and post it as "original" content. I used to get upset about this, but it's just too difficult and time-consuming to chase these jerks down. They really don't affect my web site's ranking and these scraper sites don't usually get very good rankings, either. I'm guessing that the Google and Bing algorthims take this kind of gibberish
content into account, so these idiots are probably just wasting their time anyway if they're trying to create content to get better rankings."

It's so easy to make one's arrogant VO studio less live. But just try to find information on how to make one's arrogant singing studio more reflective.
