After Sam and our original text message board disappeared, Deebs and I had a confab and she took the board by the horns and - here we are...
I think I still have a database of threads stripped from the net before it went away. _________________ Playing for a living...

That's one thing I've wrestled with,,, older threads. The issues and the players have sure changed since the earliest days. Remember (not THAT long ago) worrying about keeping our data and software in "the Cloud"? Many of us were deeply concerned, but now almost all of us do it to some degree.

I spent a little time after the move to try to do a FAQ, with the responses, but it would be so out of date now.
My time now is spent doom scrolling through FB, helping my Ukrainian refugee artist and my boyfriend's rock band with their PR, performing in plays, walking the dog, servicing my regular clients and deciding which auditions to delete.
I am so very tired of SAG demos ($250 - commission) where I would never get the final spot because it is for an on-camera part. A directed session where there is no fee for the use of the studio. (That ship sailed.) I am astounded by the number of these demos I see. _________________ Playing for a living...

I built my 1st home studio in 1991. By the fall of 2006 I had been doing freelance voiceover to one degree or another for 17 years. TV & Radio commercials, short documentary narrations, etc — all from DEEP within flyover country. I did not know one other person who was, or aspired to be, a freelance voice actor (another term I didn’t know existed).
In January, 2007 I found the VO-BB. WOW. Other people existed that were doing what I was trying to do. Shortly after, on March 17th, 2007 came VOICE in Las Vegas. To say VOICE was a watershed event in my life is not overstating the fact. I met Moe on the bus ride from the airport, and before we reached the hotel we had agreed to ride the roller coaster (at one of the hotels, I can’t remember which one) & she remains one of my very best friends who I never see in person (really should remedy that).
That’s where I also met Deebs, Frank, Bob, Amy, Liz, Diane, Pam, Mike, George, and SO many more. Just freakin' life changing for a guy from the basement of Illinois who one day didn’t know a community existed to the next actually HAVING a community! Mind blown.
The VO-BB has been, to me, an extension of that weekend for 17 years. Questions asked and answered, sharing victories and defeats - both personal & professional, bickering and bonding, beginnings and ends, joy and pain, births and deaths …
The VO-BB is about the professional world of voicing things over, but that’s just the crusty surface. If you scratch just a tiny bit you find it’s a whole lot more.
It’s about cake, chocolate and watercress. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

I was a little late to the VO-BB party. I didn't join until the middle of 2008, a mere 15 years ago. I wasn't very aware of an online VO community until I was hired to voice a couple of spots for an alleged male enhancement product called "Liquid Blue." To satisfy my curiosity, I Googled it (or perhaps it was so long ago I might have Yahoo'd it or Alta Vista'd it). Anyway, that search led me to the old Voice123 forum (I forget what it was called) and a bunch of posts from guys who had auditioned for that gig but didn't get it. I chimed in, saying I hoped it wasn't bad form to introduce myself as the guy who did get the gig everyone else was complaining about not getting.
Anyway, that was enough to get me participating in that forum and becoming acquainted with some people from the online VO world. At that time, Voice123 provided the forum but was fairly hands-off with regard to its activity. But as more and more conversation began to slam V123 and its practices, they increasingly stepped in and flexed their muscles until the place totally went to hell and I needed to find a new online home. And that's when I discovered this place, and the rest is history.
Like so many of you, I found a home here. And I may be one of the few who still checks in every day. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

After a proposal of marriage and the acceptance the newly engaged Tony asked his blushing bride to be.
"Do you think we'll live happily ever after?"
"No" she shrugged "We'll just blunder about bug***ing it up like everyone else!"
The VO-BB is not perfect, only geometry is perfect and it is NOT a rhombus!
The joy of being permitted to be a part of this esteemed group comes from being able to turn typing into real world time together in ...
Los Angeles
Harrisburg
New York
New Dehli
Portgordon
Amsterdam
London
Orkney
to name but a few.
Me n Dave, obvs.

Threadjack:
I was spending some time with a Jamaican couple in the Bahamas, voiceover came up and they eventually said they were both rabid fans of Dragon Ball Z. I immediately called Kara & put them on the phone with her. They went NUTS. It was hilarious. She's a peach!

I don't know where I was or what I was doing when that group photo was taken, but I was there in Las Vegas in 2007.
Joining the VO-BB, meeting so many in the real word through one means or another, it's been life-changing as Todd said so well. I'm glad to be one who has actually met Todd in his home turf of southern Illinois, thanks to my travels while I worked for Billy Graham. Said travels also got me to Portgordon and more than a few other places around our globe.
I don't visit very often any more, but I have nothing but warm associations with this little corner of the online world. I'm so glad it exists. _________________ Be well,

As long as we're posting pics of VO-BBers at other events, here's one from Uncle Roy's BBQ in 2012.

Wait ... there are t-shirts?
The VO-BB is directly responsible for getting me the coolest gig ever: Lake. And it's also directly responsible for me getting to meet and work with some of the coolest folks ever.
For that, I'm eternally grateful. _________________ * * * * * * * * * *
