Just scrolled back through my electronic organiser.

10 years ago today at 10am until 11.30am I was working for a production company in London doing a corporate voice over for a credit card manufacturer.

Today I started with a corporate - Italian designer
Next - Bathload of TV promo's
Then - TV commercial for new football season
post luncheon - Pharmaceutical company stuff
Sipped tea while - Corporate hotel group
After another Jazz walk - Camera kit bags ad
Taking me to supper - Elearning modules

Commuting ...it's SO 1990's

Your then and now?

* only one child - two months old
* graduate school
* a pastor on staff of a great church
* heard about a place offering training for voiceover. Boy, if it were legitimate, that could be cool to check out.

- Working for my uncle fulltime as system adminsitrator
- Working weekends and fill-in live at Z102 in Austin; voicetracking Sunday evenings.
- getting ready for our trip to St. Jean sur Richelieu, Quebec for their annual hot air balloon rally with Andrea's family. We also worked in a day trip to the beach and ancestral stomping grounds in Ogunquit, Maine.
- chasing around my then-16-month-old son. Smile

Ten years ago I was gainfully employed as an engineer at one of the premiere Post Production/Recording studios in New England, doing sporadic VO work as needed as it came through the studio. Probably came home from work and drove my (then) ten year old daughter to her dance class and my (then) eight year old son to his karate class.

Ten years ago- had 3 youngins 11,6. and 1, working 65+ hours a week for a small marketing/advertising firm doing doing PR. I loved PR, but cried every day when I dropped my son off at day care. In two years I would quit without any future plans because I needed "to go home".

Today, youngest son was home with a strep throat - nurse mom was able to supply freezer pops, lots of juice and love between voicing and editing.

My 16 yo daughter (who's home schooled) had a yucky day medically so she had a mega nap while I voiced a few MOHs for three different clients, a going out of business screamer AND because it was a quiet day I was able to punch out an hour and a half worth of an audio book narration in one sitting - WITH editing (one half hour's worth left till I'm done with my first ever audio book- sa-weet) Best part is, I AM home Laugh

in 1998 I was doing some kind of shift either afternoons or evenings at The Shark 105.3 in Dover, NH and also doing traffic for WBZ on the weekends.

I can't remember anything else, I must say.

then: v.p. of business development for a niche publisher --- bought my 1st external CD burner ... serial, slow & expensive!

now: booked today (with the recommendation of a fellow vo-bb'er) a $6k narration job ... with more projects to follow!

W00T to you (and you know who you are!)

Then: nights and imaging at a classic rock station in South Bend, IN.

Today: 2 v-o auditions, called a new local talent management company, produced 2 promos for an imaging client and a dozen imaging workparts (some sweeper shells, sound design, and a couple of beds) for the imaging service I do stuff for. Then I helped the wife with her new online quilt fabric store. Oh, and I checked the front porch... sadly, no sacks of cash today.

- Was still married to my first wife (no kids)
- Hadn't seriously considered pursuing v.o. as a career

Then: Getting married and looking forward to my job at Microsoft working on Encarta. No VO on the radar.

Now: Still working at Microsoft, but now I make video games. Successfully doing VO, but not enough to quit the day job.

Todd: Congrats!

These are such interesting stories!

10 years ago I was about to take my almost-4-year-old sons to DC with me for a year as I was invited (back) to the National Science Foundation to be a program director and hand out money. I had never heard of voice-over.

I have a very uncanny knack for remembering dates and what I was doing. The knack is slowly going away as I get older, but when I was younger, I was a walking calendar. Seriously.

For example, on June 16, 1989, I had my high school senior pictures taken. I remember a number of things I did that day. I guess it was a big day for me (they WERE probably the best pics I've ever taken, maybe that's why).

I just jacked my own post!!!

Anyway....

10 years ago this summer: Living in NYC and working as a writer for an a*****e of a manager at a mutual fund company who was making my life completely miserable, and so I was looking for a new job. In July of 98, I started my new job with New York Life as a marketing schmuck.

1998 was also the year my mother died, and oddly, around the same time, I started dating my husband.

Now: Married, living in Florida, very involved with a couple of causes that are very important to me, and doing vo as my only job - had two very awesomeauditions yesterday (fingers and toes crossed I land one of them), and confirmed that the radio spot I did last week is going to be "national" on XM Radio, and in the NY/CT/NJ tri state area. Not telling what it is though - it's not one I feel comfy with putting on my "resume" but I'll take the moula!!!

Life was good in NY, but I really have grown so much and am thrilled to be able to do something I really love, and work for myself and not The Man.
