Just curious. Are folks charging per podcast as in a radio or TV spot or per hour as in typical non-broadcast work? Is there a consensus? I didn't see anything in AFTRA's contract (but that doesn't mean it isn't there).

Thanks.

My regular podcast is paid per recorded hour, and a client I decided not to run with wanted to pay per studio hour.

Don,

In my case I treat these like a radio broadcast, except it's an industrial with commercials and imaging. If you break it down to it raw elements (industrial, commercials and/or imaging) you should be able to price accordingly.

Also, I am very selective about which podcasts with which I'll work - so far it's only been two and they've been internal corporate podcasts. No what your average individual even cares to hear, but for the companies I work with, they're trying to adapt new ways to distribute information that do not include a flat, monotone voicemail.

Truly good advice to be selective with Podcasters. I've worked with a couple of better rollers. But I've walked away from many more, simply because they want to cry that it's non-broadcast, not-for-profit, etc. It will be interesting to see where this new "venue" goes.

We have vanity publishing and thanks to Podcasting we now have vanity broadcasting. I suspect in excess of 90% of Podcasts are precisely that, although it isn't broadcasting, it's narrow casting.
