I already posted a few times, but never introduced myself. I'm a St Louisan, finally (after how long I dunno) have squared with the reality that I'm more suited to performing arts than the bluecollar/construction treadmill I've been trudging. Love acting but have no desire to appear on any screen. I've talked with some local ad-industry Hobo Toungel here and decided I should have some training before I cut a demo and go for it, so I'm taking some voice/articulation and acting classes now. And, of course, reading several books by VO pros and researching on the web.

Since there's no second chance to make a first impression I don't want to dive into this half-cocked. I really think I've finally found what I'd be best at and don't want to blunder into it foolishly.

Happy to be in the presence of so many accomplished pros (been browsing the demos and recognize a LOT of voices!), and greatly appreciate any advice or wisdom tidbits you have to toss out!

Ciao...........PJ

P.S. A woman in my voice class, after hearing me give a brief presentation, is begging me to join her Toastmasters group...it's probably a 4-gallon round trip to the meetings but do you think it'd be worthwhile to join? Just looking for educated opinions.................

Toastmasters is a great organization, and they have so many meeting sites and times, you should be able to find a convenient one close to you...unless it's important for you to to join her particular group. Then drive on!

They teach confidence in performing in front of others, as well as clarity of speech and thought. It's a low cost way to get some great training.

Glad to hear from you Dave! Your voice definitely sounds familiar! Anyone else on this board right here in river city?

Last in-depth browse I did for local VO talent showed a massive majority of AFTRA and SAG folk...I know from my construction experience this town is pretty unionized all around, but you seem to be doing okay...looks like I needn't despair! Smile
