Ok so my website is done for the most part, and it is time for duplication of my demo. I hired a company in L.A. to do my artwork and duplication since most of their demo artwork looked good.

Here is what they came back with. Just so you know, I did my own web and graphic design for my website, but had nothing to do with the graphic design of the demo cd itself.

Artwork

I have some of my own opinions but would like to hear what you guys have to say before I share them and taint yours. Smile

No clue as to why I can't seem to get the images to show up. :( If you right click on the image and choose "View Image" they will load.

Try changing the image size-- they're pretty big. The tray card is 12" by 9.5" at 72 dpi.
Half that would be good.

Adjust the IMAGE SIZE as well. This board may be choking on the images.

From the looks of it you should have saved some money and done the design yourself. All they have done is copied the graphic design from the website. I guess you must be thinking that yourself. Of course, having said that, they're just doing their job since the demo design should match your website and business cards etc.

Personally I would never use that old Sure 55 image. It's a cool looking mic and would impress those who have never seen it before, but the people who are receiving your demo and viewing your website have seen it a gazillion times on countless VO websites and demos. This just makes you one of the pack and that's not a good place to be. Using a microphone on a VO website is the obvious thing to do and the first idea most people have, which is precisely why you should avoid it, or least twist the idea a little.

Your website may well be the first thing people see about you. It can influence their opinion in all sorts of subtle ways before they even hear your demos. Impress them with your website and your halfway to impressing them with your demos.

Of course, Banskey manages to throw that whole theory out the window.

That'll be ¥2, please.

Cheers.

Maiku.

Thanks for the feedback Mike. That's exactly what I was thinking. That's why while I use the vintage mic on my website it is done in a more subtle way as part of a background image.

I was looking for something that looked different than the rest of the pack, and I felt like I did that with the website design. But with the demo it seems to be the whole message of the design.

I did tell them if I wanted a clone of my website I would have just done it myself. That didn't seem to go over too well. I feel a bit like I'm in a bad position because these guys do a lot of work for people in the industry, including recording and I would hate for this to have a negative impact on me.

I suppose having a demo package that is ridden with cliches isn't exactly going to help either.

What about adding your phone number to the spine panels on the tray card?

Looks to me like this coordinates very well with your website. Nice work!

I'd change the way those three tracks are listed:
1. Commercial Demo
2. Promo Demo
3. Trailer Demo

Add numbers, so I can skip to the track I want to hear. And no need to say plural "Commercials" . . . it's a Commercial Demo!
