I'm on the Beta list but also wondering and looking forward to when this will be available for 3.9 licensees to download and upgrade. IF it accomplishes similar performance to SC Pro, with simplified features, that would be great. And considering 3.9 has been in use for quite some time, I can only expect that advances in computer tech will be realized in SC4. They say they'll be contacting in a few weeks to initiate Beta test usage. Will update as things progress. |

What would compel a current 3.9 user, who's dialed in, to upgrade RIGHT AWAY? Hopefully the answer is 'nothing' but... If the 'ol beater (3.9) is working just fine.... wondering when it makes sense to upgrade.
My ports are mapped, my certification is certified... 3.9 has been working great for years.
Is 4.0 just gonna blow my hair back, or what? On the surface, seems like a lot of ease-of-use improvements for newcomers and studio pros, but not much benefit for voice actors who've been using 3.9 for a while. Thoughts? _________________ Mike Paul

They haven't said exactly when, but at some time in the not too distant future, they will shut down the servers for version 3.x and those versions will cease to function. When that happens, you will need to have version 4 if you want to continue using Source Connect.
The reason to get the new version by Wednesday, March 19, 2025 was to avail yourself of the special upgrade pricing. Unless they offer another upgrade deal, there's no reason to get the new version until such time as you need it (either the studio you're working with has switched to 4 and stopped using 3.x, or Source Connect has deprecated 3.x, whichever comes first). _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Gotcha. I guess I could see the upgrade worthy if you're a traveler, perhaps. Port mapping headaches would disappear. _________________ Mike Paul

SC4 is excellent. Just had my first real session with it a few days ago. May the industry quickly adopt. _________________ Jack Daniel

I upgraded to the buy-in over the weekend to test it out with a friend and be prepared for any upcoming SC sessions.
Funny, Jack--I had the opposite experience testing with a VO friend - his audio was only coming through the left channel during our live chat, but as I was recording it and playing it back to us, he came through on both channels (in mono).
The problem lies with his side, pretty sure--he's always complaining about one thing or another related to his sound; he just added an APC UPS (battery backup and probably combined with a power conditioner) that got rid of a hum he and an engineer were hearing, so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Get yourself some proper power supplies and cables for best results, lol _________________ Mike Paul

That is interesting, because I find that with SC4 the sound is better and the experience is seamless. No fussing w ports, no twiddling of dials, just fire it up (which is now instant) and go. The engineer on the other side was so grateful that I have V4 as he says it's night and day from his side. Def sounds like something on your friend's end--I know that poorly timed tweaks to my virtual console have left me in a panic before a session.
I run a UPS but it's never affected my sound--but what has is having a power cable lie on top of an audio cable, or even too close to one. _________________ Jack Daniel
