When sending out auditions, what's the PEAK (and RMS) levels of your audio? _________________ www.moosevoice.com |

I export everything at -10 at the request of the editors I regularly send to. That also helps keep it simple at my end...same setting for everything.

I keep auditions that go out as MP3s at -3 db and finished product WAV files for editors at -6 db. No complaints to date. And the auditions might have a quick peak at -1 or -2 but otherwise -3 max.

I calibrate most processing chains to land around -20 LUFS for auditions. For jobs it depends on the genre, but from -23 to -14 LUFS is the range. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

George: What makes you value LUFS as a measurement, and would you recommend it to the average voice actor doing commercials, narration, etc. for any reason? Sounds like it's most applicable to broadcast environments but I've only just learned about it.
Moose: Good question. Since I haven't needed to measure RMS I can only speak for peaks: For auditions it's -2 dB and studio work hovers -12 dB and -18 dB. Type of work: commercial, narration. _________________ Mike Paul

For those of us who have been producing audio for dozens of years (like me) and never have heard or used the term LUFS, here’s a short primer:
