It looks like this place is starting to fade into the night.
Where are your new favorite places that you're seeking out the kind of help you used to get here? Or maybe it's that those still here have already learned everything they need to know by now?

So much technical information is available from so many places that a generalized forum like this may not be the go to spot for audio tech.

The world she is a changing.

I didn't buy a gear last year. Unless something blows up, I think I'm good to go.

How much of it is accurate? Is a single trusted source worth anything?

Hi George, I can't speak for everyone, but I'd bet a lot here have solid setups that don't need tweaking and if they do, they know a friend they can call. I recall a friend asked me for SourceConnect troubleshooting help, for example.

When I first bought my Apollo twin, you configured the VO stack for me and I left it alone until I needed playback through Skype. To get that going, my first stop was the Universal Audio forums. Someone there was kind enough to send me a screen recording of their setup and walk me through it.

In general, I visit the support forum of the product I'm interested in... so if I have an Apollo question, I'd visit UA. If a mic problem, I'd see if they have a forum. However, it doesn't always work that way... to tune my booth, I asked you about it and you turned me on to ATS Acoustics. (Thank you--the bass trap and panel kick ass and make the booth very usable.)

I just went to my profile page and saw that I could fill in my ICQ number, AIM Address, MSN Messenger name, Yahoo Messenger ID and my profile pic is probably 15 years old...many parts of this cozy place are now sleepy. George, your description was perfect. Was it observation or do you want to see change?

I love this place. Look at all of the tech we have seen change. OH! And all of the "other" flashy forums that came and went. The bones over here have never been about flash, just family.

Well, now that I threw in that threadjack - I could stand to ask some questions here now and then but I know I can reach out to any of you who pay attention here, and, well, how often have you had me reach out and ask? Two audio engineers in one house are part of that, natch, but I feel like all of us who consistently interact here are in the same boat.

FWIW I'd be overnighting George for a build or help if I needed him.

I actually created a new sub-forum there.

I guess I can't help but continue to help the community for free, it's just in my nature...

ICQ, yes... I remember that wayyy back when!
I guess it was just observation, and knowing that and more useful info is being siloed away in Facebookland where it shall never be found (since no one there knows how to search and you can't search across groups and Google cannot crawl it, nor can ChatGPT). A sign of the times, I guess... In the meantime I built my own custom GPT built on my own Language Model. It's rather handy...
